Australia plans to set a minimum age for children to access social media due to concerns about mental and physical health. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his government would soon trial age verification technology before banning children from opening social media accounts later this year. He said the limit would likely be between the age of 14 and 16. The age for users to create accounts on most social media platforms is generally 13 years old. This includes Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp etc. Some platforms require the consent of parents/guardians. What the law says Children can be held legally liable for their actions. The law defines a child as “a person under the age of 18 years old”. Children aged 7+ can be sued in the name of their parent or legal guardian under South African law, while those aged 11–18 can be sued in their own name with the assistance of a parent or guardian and are deemed to be legally liable for their actions. The SA Revenue Service (SARS) says a date is yet to be set for imposing 45% tariffs, plus VAT, on small cut-price clothing imports flooding the SA market from brands such as Shein and Temu.  SARS spokesperson Siphithi Sibeko said on Monday that the agency was consulting with the industry before upping the tariff on imported clothing, textiles, and footwear costing under R500. "The consultations are still under way," he said. Sibeko said SARS and the retail industry, including parcel delivery companies, are still discussing an implementation date. The McDonalds in Green Point, Cape Town has recently renewed their lease at a rental of R420 000 per month The iconic 24HR McDonald’s drive-thru site has a lease agreement with the City of Cape Town. As of 1 July, Gauteng residents on Joburg City Power's prepaid meters will be charged a recurring R200 monthly fee.  City Power said the new fee was split into two - R70 for service charges and R130 for network capacity charges.  The fee is in addition to the 12.7% tariff increase which the utility also implemented on 1 July.
