Back to Work: The Great Resignation

The COVID-19 pandemic has truly left an impact on all aspects of our lives. In response, many Americans have developed a new appreciation for their overall wellbeing, and their new priorities are leading to some life-altering decisions. Specifically, many people have noticed the major-toll the pandemic has taken on their mental health and are now looking for opportunities that will allow them to live happier lives. Recent reports show more than 4 million workers left their job in August alone – the highest number ever recorded.   The long-lasting impact on mental health is no stranger to the workplace and in conjunction with other unmaintained issues, a worker’s revolution has begun to boom into what is being called “The Great Resignation.” In recent months, millions of workers across the country have walked out of their jobs as they make the self-affirming decision to prioritize their mental health and choose to no longer suffer from toxic work environments. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 4 million Americans quit their jobs in July of 2021 alone. By the end of July, a record-breaking 10.9 million jobs were left unfilled, and as of August, it had been reported that 55% of people in the workforce were likely to look for a new position in the coming months.
