There are many ways of life, but there is only one way that actually leads to life. The way that leads to life is through a narrow gate and a hard, lonely road, but its the way Jesus calls all who will follow Him.

Is there any point turning to God in prayer when others seem to get by without doing so? Jesus instructs His disciples to humbly ask, seek God's counsel and go to Him in prayer knowing "Your heavenly Father knows how to give good gifts to those who ask Him"

These verses in the Sermon on the Mount are among the most powerful yet most resented of all moral teachings. Jesus’ message of non-retaliation and active love toward enemies seems unrealistic and impossible in our hate-filled world. But this way of Jesus is how the kingdom of heaven breaks into the world’s cycle of evil and overcomes it for good, and is itself the very character of God.

Why call on anyone to attest to your word and not keep it? Jesus gives a clear and direct warning: to leave off making pretentions oaths and the needless unfulfilled obligations they create and to adopt the freedom that comes with simple rigid honesty.

Imagine having to consider the topic of adultery, divorce & hell all in one sitting? The sermon on the mount is aiming to get under our skin in more ways than one.

Who has never been angry? In our text Jesus puts his finger on a certain form of anger that can become detrimental to our worship of God.

There are two groups of people. People who want to get rid of God’s law, and people who think they can keep the law better than Jesus. Jesus addresses these two groups to tell them that He came to fulfil the law so that we can live in the true goodness that His kingdom demands and offers.

Are you an influencer or are you being influenced? It’s probably both to a varying degree. In view of His Kingdom, Jesus calls his disciples to effectively do the former.

For the greatest peace mission of all time it’ll take God’s mercy, a heart fully set on God and reconciliation in mind. Success isn’t guaranteed but Honours of the Heavenly order are sure. Are you in? All in?

The world around us has its own ideas about who are the blessed and happy ones. But as Jesus opens his Sermon on the Mount, he shows us what the truly blessed life is. In this blessed life, there is so much encouragement for those who have opened themselves to Jesus: it is going well for them and they have a bright future.

Ever had a surreal experience that left you wondering if God is trying to speak to you? What would you do if you knew the exact date the world will end? Jesus calls us to be alert to 2 things because signs of the end have been declared. Listen in for the signs and the 2 things we must pay attention to.

Who is the bible's target audience? Todays text shows that its sloppy to think we in the 21 CE are primary and not the secondary focus, yet God's word powerfully speaks to everyone.

The temple in Jerusalem was beyond help. It was filled with corruption, hypocrisy and evil. Although it was a place to be near God, all its leaders were far from Him. Jesus (rightly) predicts that God is calling time on the Temple, but behind his predication is the hope that God is constructing a new one.

The religious leaders are feeling the heat from Jesus' ministry so they decide to push back by challenging his authority. Jesus masterfully establishes that his authority is divine whilst the religious leaders authority is derived from the people.

How do you feel as a child when you heard your mum's keys in the door? Did it fill you with dread, or delight? The king, Jesus, came and will come again. Will it be dread or delight for you?

We all, in some way, know that we are broken, but our best solutions point us back to ourselves. The Lord Jesus wants to set us free from the disappointment of trusting in ourselves and invites us to place a faith in Him that is needy: child-like and utterly dependent on Him, because only He is our Hope.

Is self evaluation an important concept? The writer of Hebrews argues such, and not just at the start of a new year or even monthly, but daily.

The final place on our survey of the advent brigs us to God's desire to be with us. Johns's alternatives view of the advent evokes sciences from the exodus where Jesus is a new tabernacle of God's presence with us.

Is Bethlehem just a random place in which Jesus was born or is it symbolic of something more profound? The history of Bethlehem reveals that it has been the place where the hope of a family, a nation and the world are revived.

Israel and Judah's failure to measure up to God's mark brought them suffering at the hand of other nations. God gives a child and a son going first to the rebellious despised people that they may see the merciful and righteous reign of His everlasting King.

How does Jesus fulfill the role of the Wise Men? The Magi served as powerful astrologers and king makers in ancient MedoPersia and Babylon. God led them in a privileged way to His anointed King displaying divine wisdom that exists only in the simple and yet profound person of Jesus Christ.

In Malachi's day, unfaithfulness and disloyalty spread within the family of God, destroying marriages and corrupting worship. Has modern innovation in education and technology made attending church irrelevant? In Nehemiah, we see how the returning exiles try to overcome past failure by assembling around the word of God being declared by Ezra and taught by the Levites

The mass assembly of the Israelites at Sinai (Exodus 19) was the first of its kind, and one that completely overwhelmed the senses of those who attended. Should the modern church look back at this event and try to learn from it? The writer of Hebrews believes that there are better realities to explore than those experiences of the ancient church which we need to tap into.

How do we establish a healthy ecclesiology? By looking through The Bible, we will begin to see God has integrated 'the assembly' into his plan for establishing the the faithfulness and maturity of his people.

What prevents the Israelites from enjoying a close relationship with the Lord? The final call again is that Israel would repent and turn back to the Lord.

Are we to be blamed if our heart does not desire the Lord? Hosea writes to Israel and to us all that we remain responsible for reciprocating God's love and commitment to us.

What are you investing in your future? Hosea has some home truths for Israel who believe their future is looking bright. Their investment in the idol calves and king and military will come to nothing as they have not looked to the Lord first.

Has anyone made a comparison of your behaviour with something less than flattering? Hosea gives Israel an uncompromising view of their behaviour towards the Lord in the hope that it will correct them. Maybe we might also identify some of our own behaviour towards the Lord in this striking text.

Have you ever noticed how someone can plead their undying love one moment only for it to come to a short end the next moment. Hosea exposes the shallowness of Israel's love for the Lord. For all their outward display of loyalty to the Lord they are inwardly despising him

Gods judgement is discipline and His desire is to correct us. The discipline of God is so that we can return to the Lord. This is what Hosea 5 is all about - Actions have consequences.

Why speak of a future with those who grievously offend us? God demonstrated His unrelenting love in declaring His resolve to rekindle the love of his unfaithful people Israel.

Did you ever hear the song 'In Love with a Stripper?' This could have been the soundtrack to Hosea's marriage, but worse. As we begin this new series we learn of God's relentless, rescuing love in the face of persistent rejection.

Is the resurrection of Christ Jesus a historic event that just gives us hope for the future? Paul reminds us that the resurrection of Jesus has freed us now from the power of sin.

Can you afford to pay for your own sin? Someone has to. Imagine that God's word shows he has always demonstrated his love by paying the ultimate price for our sin.

I am Barabbas .. can you say it? It may feel like a negative confession, but the spirit of the age may cause us to be robbed of seeing how Barabbas truly represents us, therefore dimming our view of God's grace in Jesus as our substitute.

Does the eschatological end of the gospel register with your Christian walk? The apostle John challenges us to establish our Christian witness by our looking forward to the Lord's return and by living faithfully until that day.

What will it be like to live with God literally? God reveals His purpose to personally sustain His own in the eternally peaceful new heaven and earth where nothing evil can be found.

God has vindicated himself and his people by finally judging the World for its rebellion against him and his people. Victory for believers, devastation for the lost.

What do you believe defines a good or bad person? Morality, from a biblical perspective, is not primarily centred on how well I treat other people but on acknowledging and loving God. In this chapter John captures this struggle of Good Vs Evil in the symbolism of the woman and her children being pursued by the dragon.

Series: Apocalypse Now Are we really to expect that the world will only drastically deteriorate in the last seven years of history? When considered, in the light of Jesus' own teaching, are the trumpet plagues already effecting the world?

How comfortable would you be in a place where the worship of God was central to every mode of life? The sovereign triune God is coming to reclaim the world but only the faithful will be able to abide his presence.

To whom do you think John wrote the letters to seven churches in Asia? We can easily banish an ancient letter to history without realising that it has a prophetic effect as a pastoral message for us today.

Is John's revelation just about the end of the world? It's easy to miss the purpose of the last book in the Bible when numerous non-biblical sources have confused our understanding of it. With a more careful reading of the book we will find it was as relevant to John's first readers as it will be for his last.

Jesus and the wise men moved on from the manger towards their future mission and calling. So should every believer have a similar mindset as we move into 2022, in full assurance that God's promises to us can never fail?

After Christmas it is a good time to reflect on what you have just seen and heard. A time to ponder as Mary did, a time to worship as the wise men did and a time to praise and proclaim as the shepherd's did.

In the third of our sermons, we will be examining the third gift given to Jesus: Myrrh. God gave his gift to the Church - His son, to die so that we might live and give our gifts to Jesus, our King, our sacrificial Saviour.

Frankincense in the ancient world was often used to worship a divine being. The wise men travel hundreds of miles to deliver this gift to the new born King. Jesus is more than mortal king. He is the true God worthy of our worship.

Gold is a gift given to a king in recognition of His royalty and His right to rule. The wise men gave Jesus their gold. They gave Him their best. Do we give our best to Jesus? He doesn't just want bits of us. He wants our all. Do we see Jesus as being worthy of our gold?

What are you to do when you are caught between two warring dynasties? Daniel with the aid of the Lord foresees a time of trouble for God's people. We are to take courage that the Lord sees the needs of his people, way before we do, even looking past the seemingly bigger events of history.

Is what we can see all that there is? As God’s people face opposition from human kingdoms, Daniel 10 lets us in on the secret that God’s people also face spiritual opposition, and it is overwhelming. But God hears, comforts and fights for His people.

When you know that the days ahead are going to be difficult, how do you encourage those who are going to go through it? The Lord knows that the future of His people is going to get worse before it gets better. By the way of preparing them he calls out the plays of those empires who will rise against them but it will be God's kingdom that will ultimately win the day.

What would you do if you had one last day on earth? You would think Belshazzar would humble himself when he sees the end is near but pride is more intoxicating than strong drink. Even when the wicked are warned they still shake their fist at God.

When our faith is challenged is God able to save us from imminent danger? God ultimately rewards those who trust in Him to make His name and His work known.

The world under human kingdoms is a dark place in need of hope. God reveals to Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar and to us that the greatest hope we could ever have is this: God is really God and everything is going His way.

Do you ever feel like you would be better once your circumstances were? God's sovereignty displayed in the book of Daniel gives us faith and hope that we can flourish what ever circumstances we are found in.

When the world is turned upside down, how are the believers supposed to keep calm and carry on? Jeremiah makes it clear to the remnant of Judea who are living in fear that trusting in God is never optional if you are to be the covenant people. *Corrections I would like to note three corrections that need to be pointed out in my sermon: 1. Locution does in fact mean the meaning of words in a particular culture 2. Illocution refers to the way words are formed and transformed through different genre like poetry or narrative 3. Mizpah that is referred to in the text is most likely the one in Benjamin's territory and not the one located in Gilead on the East of the Jordan

What does it mean to be blessed? What are the messages of the beatitudes? How can I be God's salt and light to the world?

We tend to dismiss idolatry because we think only of those who have visible forms of idols. This is still part of our world, and it is amazing that people in our modern times have been just as foolish and idolatrous as were the pagans in ancient days.

Who do you say Jesus is? As we come to the conclusion of Mark's gospel are you convinced the Jesus is a servant for humanity unlike any other. A Saviour of the soul and the express image of Son of God. There is no one like Jesus.

King Jesus faces utter rejection: betrayal and desertion; conviction and condemnation. Yet His commitment to His people (us) is demonstrated through his faithful obedience; His promise to us of never leaving presence; His assurance of lasting hope and His full securing of our redemption. What A King!

Are you caught up in end of the world conspiracies? As believers we may find ourselves caught up in looking for the signs of the end of the world; whilst ignoring Jesus' imperative to see that the gospel is preached to the ends of the earth. Let's keep our eyes on the true aims of the gospel!

Are you the type of person that likes to question authority? Its may come as no surprise that Jesus was at odds with all types of people on the religious spectrum, conservative and liberals alike. Jesus claim to authority reveals their lack of commitment to God and their loyalty to their own system of belief.

As Jesus humbly triumphs towards the cross He teaches all men to trust and remain in Him to be saved, bear pleasant fruit through Him, and exercise God’s power through prayer in His name.

The world’s kingdom values riches, comfort and being served. Jesus completely flips this upside down, and shows us that the way into His kingdom is through being poor, suffering with him and serving God and his people. This road is hard, but it offers us entrance into an eternal kingdom where we will find real riches, everlasting comfort and eternal life with Jesus.

Have you ever noticed that our best moments are closely followed by our worse? Like the disciples we will also discover that Jesus is always able to guide and comfort us in the highs and lows of life.

Do you ever mistake your partial sight for full sight? The Apostle Paul reminds us that we see through a glass darkly but our own self reliance can make us forget this. Jesus shows us that only he can make us see.

Our superficial attempts to make ourselves clean are not enough. In fact, they often make us dirtier. The Lord Jesus shows us that the real issue is not our outward deeds, but with our corrupted hearts. Yet, He can truly make us clean only when we respond with dependent faith.

How can we serve God in the face of rejection, opposition and impossible odds? God’s messengers may be rejected, opposed and out of their depth but can be sure that He is ever present to fulfil his purposes.

Who or what do you go to when you are on the brink of hopeless despair? In the space of two crossings at the sea of Galilee, Jesus will: calm the fears of the disciples; exorcse a demon possessed man; heal a sick woman and raise a girl from the dead. Jesus helps the hopeless.

What stories do you tell yourself? Jesus told stories that highlighted the truths of the kingdom of God. How do his stories interpret our own and connect us to his meta-narrative?

Reaching out to people not like him, appointing his Twelve apostles, casting out demons, healing the sick, and making the Pharisees look silly. Another action-packed part of our journey through Marks's Gospel.

Why welcome a Saviour if the world seems fine the way it is? His power to heal the sick or His will to receive scum? There’s more to gain receiving and all to lose for challenging the Son of Man.

What proof would you need to believe that someone is God in person? As we step into the book of Mark, consider the action packed CV of Jesus typified in the opening chapter and ask yourself, ‘Why would he prevent people from telling others who he is?’

Do you ever wonder what Jesus taught the disciples on the road to Emmaus? Even though we do not know what Jesus said to them, we do know that their hearts burn within them once he said it. Today we will also discover how important the resurrection is to the flow of the biblical story.

How do you feel about dying? Is it something you think about often? Or does the thought of it fill you with anxiety? In this sermon we will discover that for believers death is no doomsday event but a glorious gateway to heaven. Are we willing to give up what we cannot keep in order to gain something we cannot loose?

Have you ever put in place measures to improve the lives of your community only to find them discarded sometime later? Nehemiah returns to Jerusalem to find that his people are again in spiritual decline. How can Israel survive if spiritual reforms do not continue?

How much space do you give to accommodate the surrounding culture in your life, thinking, fellowship and relationships? Nehemiah shows us that God’s holy people must guard against compromising with the surrounding culture.

Do you view your life as being divided into two areas of sacred and secular? Nehemiah, in our text today, will challenge the people of Israel to see their whole life as being dedicated to the service of God.

How do we, the church, live in meaningful community in the New Testament age? Nehemiah knew that building a city was easier than living well in it. So, here he is joining in with other leaders to commit to keeping the covenant. The local church today needs no less of a commitment if it also wants to survive.

How could God not forsake the church and all mankind for how evil and wicked we’ve all become? The returning exiles prayer of confession reminds us that God is compassionate and He is faithful to His promise to save. We today have a better covenant God has secured through Jesus who was forsaken for our salvation.

Have you ever longed to get together with the assembly of God's people? The Israelites are finally assembled in Jerusalem with a complete Temple and secure wall. But none of that will mean anything unless the people within it are righteous.

Are you standing in the work of God so firmly that it's causing people who hate the work to notice? In our text today, we will discover how Nehemiah persevered through oppositions without and within.

Church hurts ever got you down? The way Nehemiah addresses the hurts God's people were causing each other is a lesson to us all.

As a Christian wanting to serve the Lord you will experience opposition whether its physically or spiritually. Let's see how Nehemiah responds to the attack in our text.

Building God’s kingdom is a community project, needing leaders and co-builders to work together, while we await the future of the coming city of God.

Can we get involved in building a city for God? God’s plan, provision and honest assessment are crucial for lasting success.

What does the advent of Christ mean for you? For Paul the advent meant mercy and grace for him the chief of sinners. Hopefully the advent will mean the same for you.

As Christians the Apostle Paul calls us to put away all complaining and to be a light in a crooked and twisted generation. What are some of the challenges we face as we try to live this out? Do you feel the light of Christ that once shone so brightly within you is slowly flickering away? What steps can you take to reignite it?

Because Christ gave up divine privileges, became a man, a servant who was obedient to the point of death on a cross, God the Father has exalted Jesus to the highest place. All must bow the knee and confess Him as Lord! This is why He was born.

The great extent of God’s love, is that the highest being in all of existence became incredibly and shamefully low to rescue those whom He loves - US! The humility and love of Christ is the amazing gift of Christmas.

How would you want God to appear? As the all powerful Sovereign, setting wrong right; as the all benevolent ‘Father Christmas’ character dishing out blessings and benefits? His coming was just as surprising then as it is now looking back. But why?

What makes Christ Jesus the one true gift? What the Lord Jesus has accomplished in his death and resurrection has united those who believe in God, a sanctified life for all believers.

If there's any final encouragement to those serving Christ what would that be? There is an approach to God's work that excels over all and suits every situation.

Do you tend to shut down when a biblical letter turns to practical matters? If you do you may be missing an important window into how the early Christians lived out their faith.

‘What will we be like?’, and ‘When will it happen?’ you may ask. The Apostle Paul answers this... a bit; but then urges us, with the great things in store for you to live with the end in mind.

Is our bodily resurrection just a tail end of our salvation and does it influence our present faith in Christ? Paul outlines highly anticipated resurrection body features God has revealed for believers in Christ.

Is the resurrection just a bonus at the end of life for believers? Paul argues that the certainty of the resurrection is actually the culmination of Christ's finished work for the New Creation.

If Christ was not resurrected than we have no good news and Christianity falls apart, all we’re left with is idolatry. The Resurrection is central to the gospel which produces resurrection hope.

What is our future hope based on? The Gospel is the foundational, historical reality of Christ’s death and resurrection that enables sure faith for our own future resurrection.

What do you value most when you attend a church meeting? If you highly value freedom of expression, then Paul has a word of caution for you to consider your fellow believer's edification.

As we continue in our "Grow Up" series through 1 Corinthians, the apostle Paul instructs the church in Corinth to be mature in its thinking. We learn about how the church should behave concerning the gifts of speaking in tongues and prophecy.

In this section we learn from Paul to pursue love and use the gift of speaking a tongue appropriately. We all need to know and cooperate with the Spirit of God as He works His gifts in and through each of us to benefit all and Christ's work on earth.

Paul challenges the Corinthians’ presumed spirituality and behaviour, calling them to a greater way, the way of love.

The Church is the body of Christ which is a unity in diversity. United together by the Spirit, yet diverse in gifts and roles.

Who has the spiritual gifts and why? The Holy Spirit gives diverse gifts to all believers, for the common good.

What are you bringing to the table? The Lord's supper is a place where we commune with our Saviour. It's a call to love Christ and to love His Church and about checking our hearts before we come to the Lord's table, just as Paul instructed the believers in Corinth.

Is there place for male and female to vocally worship God in the same gathering? While different and equally made in God's image each must worship in a manner that glorifies God and honours His order in the church.

How do we live God glorifying lives in a society that is so steeped in idolatry? Paul reminds us that we are to flee idolatry, and follow Christ in seeking the good of our neighbour over our own freedom.

Can a person be strong and yet weak at the same time? Old Testament history teaches us that an arrogant stance can quickly turn into an embarrassing fall, but God.

Will God reward those who fulfil His work on earth? if you receive God's Word with the right heart; the right focus will enable you to serve faithfully and accumulate God's eternal rewards.

Is it always right to exercise your rights? 
Like the Corinthians we live in a very individualistic society with the common tendency to put self first, is this always Christ honouring?

How do you best preserve the unity of the gospel community? You might be forgiven if you believe that just telling fellow believers the truth is enough. Paul remind us that we need love as well as truth.

Should you get married, and if so, to who? The massive decision to tie the knot will either be influenced by the surrounding culture or scripture.

How does being born again affect our, where we find ourselves in life? Drastic dissociation and social change or confident trust of God’s sovereignty in our life and relationships?

Paul was aware of the problem of divorce within the Corinthian church. It was the notion that one could divorce their spouse for any reason. This practice had crept in from the culture around them. As Christians, we too can fall into the trap of letting the 21st century culture influence our thinking when it comes to the subject of marriage and divorce. Let's look at some practical advice on the subject.

What is the preferred marital status? Over the centuries of church history the opinion has varied but if you listen carefully to Paul's argument he believes that whatever our marital status God blesses us where we are at.

What are the uncommon implications of sex? Some think sex connects two people like Blue Tac, others say Velcro which both have degrees of temporary stickiness, but the inventor of sex says it's more like epoxy-permanent.

Is there any chance we’ll enter the kingdom of God? What does it take to throw it away, if we lose the way and to even get underway?

Most of us would say that we've never taken a fellow Christian to the law courts. But what about the courtroom of your heart and mind. In this sermon we will examine some practical advice from scripture for resolving trivial issues between believers instead of exposing them before those outside of the church.

How do we help one another to change? It has be said that: 'It takes a village to raise a child'; this quote mirrors the greenhouse effect of the local Christian Church in regards to spiritual growth.

We all lack a clear sense of direction or the ability to get past certain situations at times? God has sent his Spirit and He is at work giving direction to ALL people. Do you recognise His direction?
