When you’re a business owner, at some point in your journey you might experience someone trying to take advantage of you. In fact, last year I talked about how I got scammed on Etsy in episode 70 where fraudulent buyers would target my digital listings, download them and request an automatic refund from Etsy so they basically got it for free. Thankfully, Etsy has since changed their policy on digital downloads and now you can no longer request a refund on a digital item. This story I’m about to tell you though happened to me a few years back when I was mainly selling original paintings. Someone tried to get their hands on one of my $600 paintings for free, and if I had not already been aware of the red flags that many sellers miss, I could have become a victim of fraud. In this episode, I’ll share what happened, all of the red flags that told me this was a scam, what would have happened if I didn’t know any better, and how to make sure you don’t get scammed yourself because people like this target creators just like you all the time.
