Today’s guest is a 2011 graduate of DuVal High School that competed in the 400m/800m he went on to compete for Hampton University. Prior to getting there he set the PBs of 48.28, 1:52.53 earning him Washington Post All-Met, All County honors in 2010, 2011. A tough runner with a furious finish made his mark in the stomping grounds of P.G. County and the state of Maryland. Today’s guest is Ashley Horn, a 2001 graduate of Potomac High School, a thrower that competed in the Shot Put, Discus and Javelin went on to Morgan State University. Prior to getting there she set the county record in the Shot Put tossing the 4k shot 42’ 10”.  A Washington Post All-Met, All County in 2000 and 2001. She is now the Head Volleyball Coach & Assistant Track Coach at DuVal High School in Lanham, MD. Join us for a great conversation about her story and PG County Athletics.

Episode 9 Daryl Young

Today’s guest has high school PBs of 48.41 for 400m,  1:58.43 for 800. He won the Springdale school’s first male individual state title in 2003. He captured  the 2003 state crown in the 300m dash posting a 35.64, avenging his 5th place  the year before. At that same meet he helped his team win the 4x400m defeating the traditional powerhouse teams of Suitland, Oxon Hill & High Point. A main cog individually and for numerous relays at championships at national meets he was inducted to the C.H. Flowers Golden Spike Club. Welcome 2003 C.H. Flowers Alum, Mr. Daryl Young.

Today’s guest is a 2007 graduate of C.H. Flowers owns several school records ranging from the 800 meters to the 5k during the Fall Cross Country season. He earned the runner up spot at the Indoor State meet running 1:59.35. His rough and gritty running style led him to boasts School records in Outdoor 1500, 3200, 3000  Indoor 1k, Mile, Top 3 in Cross Country 17:27. His PR of 1:55.46 is just off the 1:54.91 school record in the 800m.

Today’s guest Marika Walker, has high school PBs of 56.54 for 400m, 2:06 for 800, 4:50.72 1600m and to top it off also owns a Cross County  5k PR of 17:34. A 2x State Champion in Cross Country she brought the title back to PG County in 2005 & 2006. She is an All-Met, All County, All American Honors during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. At the 2007  Penn Relays she was part of the team from Eleanor Roosevelt that captured the Championship of America in the 4x800m.

The 3x Washington Post All Met sprinter was the 2002 Washington Post AOY, Gatorade Maryland AOY. This former 5 time state champion, was the 100m Maryland State record holder and led her team to several titles, including the  current 4x100m state record (46.83). Her high school personal best include; 100m 11.64, 200m 24.15, LJ 19', 55m 7.03. Largo alum India Ransom sat down with me for Episode 6.

Episode 5 Christian Harrison

Current Adidas Track athlete Christian Harrison joins the show for Episode 5. The former 2011 C.H. Flowers graduate, went on to North Carolina A&T, and later University of Georgia where he was a NCAA qualifier in 2016 running 1:46.69 in the 800m run. He is the current record holder at Flowers in Cross Country at 16:53 and 4:25 for 1600m. Christian returns to his Glenarden home where he has helped other student athletes by raising funds to support their college costs.
