The people of Israel were going through a cycle of relapse and recovery because they had lost their focus. Finding the right focus helps us to break out of a bad cycle and move on to a place of incremental progress. Paul's letter to the Thessalonians shows how we can make this transition.

Mark Chapter 16 - Easter Sunday - Jesus Has Risen!

Mark 14 & 15 takes us through the trial and death of Jesus and on the pain, shame and humiliation Jesus endured. We look at the passages and the parallels with the Passover lamb in Exodus.

Mark Chapter 13.

Mark Chapter 11. Have faith in God - even for the impossible.

In Mark 10 the Story confronts idols of love, power and wealth. Jesus pays the ransom so we can be free.

In Mark 9 we discover the disciples are called to serve others, not be exclusive and to be radical with sin.

The Transfiguration demonstrates that Jesus is the Lord of history with Moses and Elijah but also the God who breaks into the here and now.

In the Old Testament God fed one nation for one generation. Jesus demonstrates that He feeds all nations for all time.

There can be great opposition on the adventure but Jesus brings breakthrough and is looking for our faith.

The Great story we are caught up in includes calling, parables and miracles!

Mark, based on the testimony of Peter records the story of Jesus: connected to creation - in the beginning, there is baptism and the Kingdom breaks in!

When Jesus breaks in and amazing things happen how do we respond - run away or run back to him in thanks?

The birth of Jesus - the hinge event of all eternity!

The small family unit has to decide how the birth of the Messiah will impact them.

Throughout all of time there has been a looking forward to the arrival of Jesus.

King David was settled in the Palace but hungry to fulfil his call and bring Glory to God and his attitude and action inspired others to build the Temple. God has an even bigger plan and established a Kingdom forever from Davids family and the foundation is blood and faith.2 Samuel 7:1-3

The letter to Thyatira challenges us that our lives on Monday morning should be consistent with what we confess on Sunday mornings. Revelation 2:18-29

Izmir was a tough place to live as a Christian, so the letter to them reminds them who Jesus is and the words of encouragement that the Spirit brings. Though believers will suffer in this life there are eternal rewards waiting for them. Revelation 2:8-11

Sibs challenges us as to how we see ourlseves and others. Flowing from the grace of the gospel we are to be those who reach out to those not like us. Luke 14:12-14

Paradise is fellowship with God and Him revealing His mysteries as we seek him.

So easy to dream about paradise, everything going really really well. John writes a letter to Christians facing hardship and explaining what real haven is like: starting with a description of Jesus as the Alpha & Omega. Revelation 1:4-8

God chooses Abram to be the father of the nation despite his poor qualifications. Abram does listen & obey God, he discovers more of God and ultimately only builds anything to the glory of God. Genesis 11:27-12:8

The Bible is full of examples where power is used wrongly: people get full of pride. There is only One who walks in humility: do we admire Him or want to be like Him?

It feels as is sex is everywhere: do we think it is irresistible or indecent? Or is sex an image of God and the gospel?

It is easy to get our self worth from our net worth. Pete shared 5 principles in dealing with money and taught on what really satisfies.

How can an all powerful God also be all loving - what about the pain? Redeemer was privileged to have Tanya visiting from RZIM Europe (rzim.eu) and The OCCA (theocca.org), where she is an Apologist and guest lecturer.

The book of Joshua starts with a command of God: He tells Joshua to advance and to be strong and courageous. Joshua is not to go alone but they are all to 'help your brothers', but victory is ultimately secured because God promises to go with them. Joshua 1:1-18

The book of Esther stirs us to have Faith in God, to be Faithful in the place where we find ourselves and with divine help to be prepared to Fight.

Providence, Pride and a Picture of Humility: both servants point us to look at Jesus. Esther 6

Esther decides to take a R-I-S-K - she is willing to die for her people. A picture of Jesus who leaves Heaven to join a people and then dies for them. Esther 4.

Life can become so complicated due to sins, mistakes and tragedies - yet we can also know a hope for the future.

The church in Acts were often asking God for Boldness: life was a challenge and they were keen to see the good news of Jesus told to as many as possible. Are you caught up in God's adventure and constantly calling out to Him for help?

Believe and be baptised. Water baptism was modelled by and commissioned by Jesus. It is a symbol of our union with Christ, our sin being washed away and our joining the church.... as well as a wonderful opportunity to encounter the Father.

Breaking Bread is a chance each Sunday to remember the covenant that Jesus established. We remember the life of Jesus, proclaim His death and enjoy His presence. We delight in the love of Jesus, affirm His work on our life and look forward to His return. We also express our unity with the church.

The first thing Jesus talks about in the gospel of Mark is the Kingdom. The KIngdom is a theme woven the whole way through the Bible; Genesis to Revelation. We get to play our part in seeing the Kingdom Advance Mark 1:15

Adam shows us from the story of the widow's offering that Jesus wants us to give our whole lives, including money, fully over to Him to put Him in control. Mark 12:41-44.

On Easter Sunday the tomb is empty! There is no body to be found, the news is that Jesus as risen, Jesus shows himself to them and then they understand! Luke 24

The Cross

John starts with this amazing sign pointing to who Jesus is. The relationship between Mary and Jesus changes, the miracle amazes and the glory is revealed..... leading to faith in the disciples. John 2:1-11

Mary the amazing mother of Jesus accepts the grace of God toward her, reacts so well to the huge challenge presented and responds with obedience and faith: an example to us all! Luke 1:26-33

People try and get to Jesus but the disciples create a barrier. Jesus is indignant and breaks the barrier down - all are welcome! Mark 10:13-16

Based on the story of Daniel in the Bible, Andrew tackled the dangers we face, the line we must draw and the vindication available. Daniel 1: 1- 21

When following Jesus we can face tough times. Jesus is with us and able to perform a miracle. The bigger questions are: why do we have such little faith? and who is this amazing Jesus? Mark 4:35-41

The final sermon in the series tackled the issues of giving: based on the account of Jesus watching the widow in the Temple. Jesus sees what is in our hand and delights in total commitment - sacrifice rather than contribution, interested in what we have left as much as what we give. Mark 12:41-44

Shocking: Jesus washes the disciples feet! This was a symbol that all disciples will need to be 'spiritually washed' and a model of behaviour to copy. John 13:1-17

IF....THEN...DO...EACH...are all key words in being Community. We are compelled by the life of Jesus and given the examples of Paul, Timothy & Epaphroditus. Philippians 2:1-11

Lex shared his story and spoke from 2 Timothy 1:12. Faith has always been challenged and people of faith can be accused of being gullible....but don't give up!

Convenience v Commitment. Jesus challenges the disciples to deny themselves, take up their cross and follow him. Matthew 16:21-28

We're on a Mission from God: He is on Mission and if we want to be with Him we will be to! We must overcome the hindrances and rise to the provocations, get equipped and in position for a great adventure!

Paul encouraged the believers to fight for the gospel, to defend what they had received. Pete looked at 4 challenges the gospel faces today: relativism, moralism, religion and materialism.

We should all be changed by the gospel: in a moment and over time. It is not about modifying behaviour but understanding your identity and having a heart change.

There are many different gifts but they are all for the common good. They are broadly categorised under divine revelation, divine power and divine communication. They are for today! 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

Miracles point us to the love of the Father

Jesus declared that if anyone is thirsty they can come to him and drink. The Holy Spirit will be living water overflowing in you. John 7:37-44

The Holy Spirit is mentioned in the first and last chapter of the Bible and is everywhere in between. Jesus declared it was better that He left His disciples so the Spirit would come. The Holy Spirit lives in us and brings intimacy with the Father.

Deborah was an incredible leader who served her community and took action to save God's people. Deborah the hero points us towards the ultimate hero, Jesus Christ.

The disciples travelling to Emmaus discover Jesus had completed His mission but now it is our responsibility to take this good news to the end of the earth. The relay baton has been passed!

Rich takes us through the life and example of Miriam and how God can use it to inspire our corporate worship and worship lifestyle

Andy told us a story using 2 scenes from the Bible: Adam in Eden, the Father in Heaven and Jesus on the cross. Despite our shame Jesus offers us peace. John 20:19-23

The story of Rahab is one of Amazing GRACE. A prostitute saved by faith: the scarlet cord in the window an image like the blood over the door - both pointing to a Saviour who died to give life. Rahab is changed from a despised woman into a loving mother surrounded by a family. The gospel brings us home.

The account of Stephen in the New Testament displays the radical gospel: a life of sacrifice. Stephen looked LIKE and TO Jesus. Jesus life and death demonstrated that life follows sacrifice. On Fathers Day, men are challenged to sacrifice.

A Twist on Oliver. Sam uses the story of Oliver Twist to reveal how the Father has saved us from being an orphan or an accessory.

A decisive moment in church history: Peter climbs the stairs to go on to the roof to pray and God speaks telling him the gospel must go to all! Acts 10:9-23

Adrian invites us all to get involved in sharing the wonderful news about Jesus. The Bible describes the process as fishing, sowing, farming and searching - all which take time but are well worth it in the end!

Is Ambition good? What is Christian ambition? What are the challenges we have to overcome? What helps us achieve? How does Jesus fit with all this? Colossians 3:23

The first in a new 6 part series looking at God @ Work. Being made in the image of God we are created to work though it can be frustrating. We do not gain our identity by the job we do but we do work as an act of worship to God. Genesis 1.

David the new King of the nation demonstrates courage and tenacity in establishing the city of Jerusalem. A place for the Presences of God, the uniting of People and the Pointing to Jesus through the lives of Melchizedek & Abraham. 2 Samuel 5:6-10

In our penultimate sermon in this series we focus Moses speaking to God "face to face" in Exodus 33 and follow the golden thread of the presence of God through the bible.

The Modern Family is fluid & flexible and the Bible is still helpful today. Family is a gift from God our Father. As parents we should always learn, communicate and forgive. As children we should honour our parents by accepting & appreciating them. However well we do - only Jesus kept all the commands and we are saved by His actions and not our own. Exodus 20:1-17

Life in the desert was hard: desperate for food and water the people grumbled, questioned God and doubted. Moses listens to God and obeys. Our faith in Jesus grows as we see Him as the bread of life, the one struck by God and from whom the Spirit is poured out.Exodus 17:1-7

Fleeing Egypt, celebrating the Passover and crossing the Red Sea! A new beginning, each person signed up to by painting the blood over their door. Follow the sacrifice of a perfect lamb the adventure begins. The picture of baptism shows how the past completely dealt with, help for the present and hope for a better future. Exodus 12:1-13

How can a loving God not only allow but deliberately inflict suffering on the nation of Egypt. Adam explains how God used the plagues to ultimately lead to salvation for for all mankind. Ex 5-11.

After waiting 80years Moses encounters God at the burning bush and is called to go and gather worshippers. Moses lack of confidence is seen by his 5 questions. God answers not by saying you are great but declaring 'I AM'. God still calls and commissions today - how do you respond? Exodus 3

Pete kicked off the new series by looking at how Moses was prepared for his task. He gained a sense of his part in the big story, he was thankful for his personal history, his character was developed and his skills refined. Are you ready? Exodus 2.

Ezekiel is led by God in the midst of apparent defeat and disaster to declare the glorious victory of God. Our Lord can do the impossible - so speak out what you hear from Him. Ultimately our hope is not in the vast army but the Lord who starts and finishes the work. Ezekiel 37:1-14

Solomon establishes himself on the throne and then makes the decision to build the Temple for God. The process involved many dates and details but he saw it through to completion.Will you serve God in your life? 2 Chronicles 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 5:1.

Come long expected Jesus

It is easy to look at others. Take time to reflect on how your year has been. What will you believe God for in 2015? Matthew 2:1-6

The hero who is still to come

2 words stand out from the chapter: City & Submission. We want to see God's Kingdom established in London and to play our part in making the capital great. Nehemiah 11:1-19

In view of all this.... words that sum up ch9 and make sense of ch10! The people make a covenant with God which is demonstrated by their choice of Spouse, their behaviour on the Sabbath and their commitment to the Sanctuary. As a result of all that God has done for us we live all for Him. Nehemiah 9:38-10:38

People love to be weird, especially when they are trying to be religious. Adam explains the difference between the gospel and religion, whilst looking at how at this point in the story the people of God have suddenly started to act a little weird. Nehemiah 8:13 - 9:38.

The people gather round the book: they show reverence for the book are moved by the book and obey the book! Nehemiah 8:1-13

Despite opposition the wall is completed by the help of God: yet the job is not done. Nehemiah understand that Gods people are to be numerous and expanding: a message that echoes through time. The prophets declared it, Jesus taught it & the Early Church modelled it. Growth continues in the church around the world today! Nehemiah 7:1-5

Nehemiah was not so busy with the project that he stopped caring for the people. The church should model generosity - investing time and money in caring for the poor. Nehemiah 5:1-19

The list of names teaches us that we are to Build Together: unity of intention, diversity of interest and variety of involvement. The place where we start and finish is the sheep gate - pointing to the perfect lamb of God - JESUS. Nehemiah 3:1-32

God's adventure for your life. Why am I here? What was I made for? Discover the greater plan God has for you. Nehemiah 2:1-20

The story of Nehemiah shows us that we are to play our part in helping to build the earthly city, whilst bringing more of the heavenly city to the now. But before we DO anything SPEND time with the Father. Nehemiah 1:1-11

Richard reminded us that God has exact places where we should live and that we are part of God's growing Kingdom. With this in mind there were 5 helpful tips for students and for the church!

Julian shared about how to develop a culture of faith - much more about Jesus and who he is than who I am. Matthew 15:21-28

From the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 we learn that the heart is so important; compassion more than concern. Jesus loves getting the disciples involved and the results are supernatural. Before He prays Jesus looks up: we are to keep our eyes fixed on our Father in Heaven and see what He is doing. Matthew 14:13-21

Community is a theme that runs right through the Bible: from God, in the garden of Eden, at the Cross and to Heaven. Redeemer is committed to building community groups that reflect this by Growing as believers and by Going to others with the good news.

We are a New Creation in Christ. For it is by grace you have been saved. Galatians 6

The book of Galatians is absolutely dripping with the language of freedom... but what is true freedom? Adam explores how we are only really liberated when we realise our full potential, within the environment that we were made for. Gal 5:1-26.

We focus in on Paul's big metaphor from the beginning of Galatians 4 - that God is a father who adopts, through the work of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit makes it personal to each of us.

Pete explained the argument of Paul through 5 people with 5 objects: the wizards & wands, Abraham & knife, Moses & rod, Jesus & cross, Father & hand. Galatians 3

The Christian life ultimately comes down to two words: stop trying. Galatians 2

Paul wrote to the churches urgently encouraging them to stick with the gospel: Jesus + nothing = everything. If we change the gospel it is no gospel at all, instead we are to take the true gospel to all. Galatians 1

As a result of the difference Jesus and his love for his disciples, the early church were generous in giving. Edward shared stories of the work of Tearfund in places like Myanmar & Uganda and stirred us all to be involved in giving to the poor around the world. Acts 2:42-47

We are all designed with an inner thirst and we can look for many things to bring satisfaction - jobs, possessions & relationships. Yet we still remain desiring more. Jesus said he can quench our thirst. John 4

Elijah takes a message from God to the king and nation; stop wavering, turn back to God, look for the supernatural and have your eyes opened to see Him! 1 Kings 18:16-40

As Christians we are keen to follow the will of God - yet there are so many decisions to make! God guides through the circumstances of life, through the prophetic, through the counsel of others, through common sense and the word of God. Acts 16:6-10

Elijah is confronted with the tragedy of the widows son dying. Elijah responds by crying out to God and sees the 1st recorded account in the Bible of the dead being raised. 1 Kings 17:17-24

Elijah leaves the dried up brook and travels to Sidon where a poor widow about to die witnesses the miracle of the oil and flour that do not run out. 1 Kings 17:6-16

Elijah confronts King Ahab with the devastating news there will be no rain for over 3 years.The rain does return after Elijah prays. Yet the story is really about God: His word, His provisions, His commands, His actions. God who is supreme! 1 Kings 17 & 18.

Worship the Father wants. Praise the Lord, sing a new song, with others, joyfully and remember to dance. Psalm 149

Adam shows us how our understanding of the rule & reign of Christ impacts the way in which we serve the kingdom. Using Psalm 2 we see how God describes himself as King, helping us to get a bigger picture of how there is only one true King... Jesus. Psalm 2:1-12.

Although Londoners don't daily see sheep & shepherds this Biblical image reveals lots to us about God: He provides, He guides, He protects, He is faithful, He is tender and He fights for us. In Jesus we see a shepherd who personally knows all the sheep and is prepared to die for them. Psalm 23 & John 10.

The second in the series God is, Sam stretched our minds to grapple with the concept of Eternal God. God offers us the chance to know Him who stepped into time to save us.

The first in a new 4 part series looking at who God is. The Bible reveals God as Holy and as His people we also are called to be holy: separate from sin and seeking His glory. 1 Peter 1:15 & 16

It is easy to ask the question - What about...? concerned over something we feel we sacrifice by obeying God. However the man of God answers - The Lord can give you much more than that. 2 Chronicles 25:1-9

Adam looked at how Jesus' death & resurrection transformed the life of Peter, & how Jesus also overcomes our failures today. We fail. Jesus does not. Luke 5:1-11, Luke 22:31–34, Luke 22:54–62, John 21:1-19.

The last in the iGeneration series was looking at the subject of sex: men as microwaves and woman as slow cookers. Is sex God, gross or a gift? How should this impact our lives as singles and married? In what ways is sex a model of the gospel? Genesis 2:24 & 25

Marriage and its place in society has changed much in recent years. The Bible teaches us to love - to be more than consumers to be covenanted to our husband or wife. Ephesians 5:22-33

Pete pointed out that it is so easy in the digital age to wear a mask - to pretend to be more than we are. The 3 tests Jesus endured in the desert were around 'I am what I do?' 'Am I what I have?' 'Am I what others think?' The Devil has been looking to rob identities since Adam and the start of the world. However in Christ we are significant, secure and accepted. Ephesians 2:10

Edward tackled the issue of work - created by God, whether voluntary or paid. He looked at the pressures, the pitfalls and the peaks.

Pete addressed the topic of singleness: there can be 2 extreme approaches to this - a dread of being single and an over desire to marry or a desire to be single with an under desire to be married. Instead we are called to be a gospel community that does singleness well. 1 Corinthians 7

Sam reminded us that everything on the earth belongs to the Lord - we are to be good stewards who invest wisely. The Bible clearly teaches we are to tithe but also that our giving should be fun and we will be rewarded. Matthew 25:14-30

The fourth talk in the iGeneration series looked at time: we can feel under such pressure due to work, parenting, technology, over committing and being proud. Busyness can ruin your joy, rob your heart and rot your soul. God is Lord of time and each day is a gift from Him that we have to use responsibly. Do not get distracted but do the most important thing - spend time with Jesus. Luke 10:38-42

Richard tackled the huge area of social media under the headings: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. We must avoid the temptation to compare, show off and have extreme highs & lows - instead we are to be confident in Jesus, our lives built upon His blood and righteousness.

The second talk in the iGeneration series focused on the meteoric rise of Pornography with the internet, the warnings that are issued in scripture and the 5 steps to Freedom. Proverbs 5

Pete kicked off the iGeneration series looking at how such rapid changes in technology is impacting the way we live. How do we react to change? We are called to be salt & light. Matthew 5:13-16

Pete looked at the meeting of Jesus and Nicodemus. The intelligent, powerful Pharisees who recognised the teaching and miracles of Jesus have a chat and his life is never the same again. John 3:1-4

Pete looked at the healing of the 10 lepors and stirred us to be a grateful people: for all that God has done for us but essentially for who He is. Luke 17:11-19

Based on the healing in Mark 8 and the story of 2 Kings 6 Pete asked the question ' what do you see?" We are to be a church who walk by faith not by sight - fixing our eyes on Jesus. Mark 8:22-25. 2 Kings 6:8-23

Based upon the Parable of the Lost Son, Pete drew out 6 main points that we discover about God our Father: faithful, Active, Tender, Honours, Extravagant & Rejoicing. Luke 15:11-32.

Pete unpacks the wonderful end to this book: Boaz wins Ruth, God gives them a family, the future grandchild will save the nation and the Saviour of the world, Jesus, will come from this family line! Ruth 4:1-22

Pete outlines the plan of Naomi that Ruth activities at midnight as show goes to find Boaz at the threshing floor. After proposing Ruth has to wait for Boaz to sort things the next day. Ruth 3:1-18

Pete looks at the hard work Ruth commits whilst ultimately recognising she is guided by God to the field of Boaz.Te grace shown to this foreigner is because she choose to hide herself under the wings of God. Ruth 2:1-23

Pete showed how bad choices resulted in suffering & loss. Ruth demonstrates loyalty & faithfulness but hope comes when God brings the Barley Harvest. Ruth 1:1-22

Pete looks at the Spirit filled church in the New Testament and draws out 4 points: The were totally committed, who celebrated God, lived in radical community and saw the numbers expand. Acts 2:42-47

Adam looks at how we are invited to Walk With God, & how although we often walk away from Him, God has found a way to call us back into His presence. Gen 3:8.

In week 6 of the series Pete looks at how despite Christians suffering we can be full of hope: we identify with Christ, we are filled with the Spirit, we know the care of the Father, receive the love of the family & have a future hope of glory. This results is us being materially and relationally generous. 1 Peter 4:12 & 13

In week 4 of the series Pete looks at the fact we act what we are - a called and chosen people. The reason is so we can declare His praise. Practically this impacts out daily, weekly & monthly routines as we seek to love Jesus, people & life. 1 Peter 2:9-12

In week 3 of the series Pete shows how we are to value the word of God and use it to care for one another: in everyday life, over time, with grace and good news because God is great, glorious, good and gracious. 1 Peter 1:22-2:3

In week 2 of the series Pete looks at how we are called for a purpose: to live as a community. The church is to be holy - separate from sin and living for God - which is described as being a family together. 1 Peter 1:13-2:5

On our 1st Redeemer Fathers day Pete looks at the job of being a Father - to lead, teach, provide & spiritually feed our kids. The Bible has provided honest role models of negative & positive Fathers but the Perfect Father is God in heaven.

In week 1 of the series Pete looks at how believers are described as strangers in this world - similar to Abraham in the OT. In this life we may well suffer as Jesus did but our salvation has been paid for - so we are born again and totally loved by the Father 1 Peter 1:1-12

On our 1st Redeemer dedication Pete looks through the Bible for parenting tips. There are many stories of how people got it wrong and a great parable of how God gets it right. God is a perfect father to each one of us.Luke 15:11-32
