Experience Is Wisdom

I'm not even sure how to explain the force that is Kathryn Compton. She has been LIVING an incredibly meaningful life and her impact is literally stunning. Her deep commitment and love for the poor and marginalized people of the world are evident in everything she does and touches everyone she meets profoundly. From raising millions of dollars to mobilizing, educating, and informing, individuals, corporations, foundations, community leaders, and the media - I mean this woman!! Also, she is one of the most delightful, honest, intelligent and kind people I've ever met. An empowering leader who is hopeful amidst difficult times... she has so much wisdom and experience she is sharing. I know you are going to learn and be equally challenged and inspired. Maslow, Matthew Perry, and Legacy

What does it mean to live a legacy? Often we think of legacy in terms of what people might think of us when we are dead. But then we are dead. So, what does it matter? What if instead of fixating on a ‘dead legacy’ which is something we can’t control - we focused on what we can do right now? How might we live our lives NOW in a way that might make a long term impact for good in THIS world. How can our investment and influence outlast our physical bodies or mental stamina to keep contributing?I’ve heard many influential people at the end of their lives looking back and giving advice and it’s never about making more money - it’s about giving more away. It’s never about working harder - it’s always about working smarter. It’s never about fame or celebrity - it’s most often about genuine relationships of connection and love. It’s never about the size of the house but the quality of the relationships inside of them. What if we took a few minutes out of our busy lives to contemplate these things together. What if we found women around the world who are doing this well and asked them for their advice? What if we took it? What if we buckled down and asked each other the good hard questions of a life well lived and told regret to get in the back seat while we took the wheel: Are we living lives that matter? Are we living in such a way that our influence is contributing to a better world right now? How can we begin to get radically intentional about a living legacy? What kind of investments/relationships/confidence is required to do this well? These are some of the questions that will lead us on this journey together. Are you ready? Here we go. On Maslow: https://bigthink.com/neuropsych/maslow-self-transcendence/https://www.resilience.org/stories/2021-06-18/the-blackfoot-wisdom-that-inspired-maslows-hierarchy/On Matthew Perry: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/10/29/matthew-perry-friends-fame/Strong women Strong World: https://donate.worldvision.org/give/strong-women-strong-world-fundDanielle Strickland: Daniellestrickland.com  This is a public episode. Ted Lasso | God at the Movies feat. Joash Thomas Ep.5

Welcome to God at the Movies!  We're glad you're here.  Co-hosts Danielle Strickland and James Sholl spend this season diving deep into popular movies and TV shows and what's being said about culture today.  The base from which they approach this task is found in the belief that God is at work redeeming all things everywhere. This weeks content is on the 2020 Apple TV+ hit show, Ted Lasso. Ted Lasso is an American college football coach. So, naturally he’d be great at coaching an English football team, right? Not exactly, but gosh darn it if Ted’s optimism and folksy charm aren’t just what AFC Richmond needs, even if the team’s owner did only hire him in an attempt to get revenge on the previous owner, her ex. - VultureJoash Thomas is International Justice Mission Canada’s National Director of Mobilization & Advocacy. Born and raised in India, Joash has served with IJM teams in 3 countries over the past 8 years. Prior to joining IJM, Joash ran a political consulting and lobbying firm in the United States.Joash has a master’s degree in Political Management from The George Washington University and is currently pursuing a dual master’s degree in Christian Leadership & Systematic Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. A sought-after speaker, Joash is frequently invited to teach about justice at churches across Canada.
