On Wednesday evening (Sept. 19, 2018), a handful of Senators-related bloggers, podcasters, and social-media personalities were invited by the Senators to attend the preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Canadian Tire Centre. In attendance were Sens Callups, Sens Chirp, 6th Sens, Silver Seven Sens, and bRian5or6. We were given the opportunity to talk with Pierre Dorion (General Manager) and then later with Aimee Deziel (CMO), Janice Nicholson (head of digital media). This is the audio from the round-table portions of those meetings. The quality is limited as it was not a formal interview setup and there was a lot of noise from the arena as pre-game warm-ups were getting underway. The Pierre Dorion round table consists of the first 19 minutes. After that is the discussion with Aimee Deziel (new CMO). The audio for this section is limited as the warmups had started and there is a more background noise. However we've left it in for you and it can be useful to hear some of the marketing plans the team has, not only with better engaging digital media, but also some plans for the year. It was a very encouraging conversation and hopefully just the first of many. We're back & the Sens hit the ice in less than 24 hours! We’re back to summarize what some would say has been a summer of blunders.  From the loss of Methot in the expansion draft, not drafting a goalie, signing Nate Thompson and other long contracts along with having Daniel Alfredsson leaving the team once again.  What does this mean about the team?  What does it mean to the fan base?  And most importantly what does it mean to Erik Karlsson?  WHO KNOWS!?!?!?!?Seas

We summarize the remainder of the playoff series where the Sens lost to the reigning Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins in double overtime of game 7. We’re Back! There’s been a lot of changes this season from the GM to the bottom six pairing.  We get back together for our Quinquennial season and discuss all the changes coming up for the Ottawa Senators.  We’re being positive and looking forward to the season starting up!

We return after a very busy summer period. Coaches Fired - Done Chiasson gone - Done Sign Stamkos - well…. The whole coaching team has been churned over where we get NHL experience with Guy Boucher & Marc Crawford even if these weren’t the guys that we personally envisioned leading the team.  After time to dissect it and after going to the Development camp, we’re liking more of what we see. The season is looking quite positive (and it’s not like we traded away an all star trophy winning defence man to do it) Lots of change is coming up for this upcoming season - buckle up!

We reunite at the end of a very inconsistent season to debrief on the year that has been.  What better way of doing so than by being joined by Dean Brown, the voice of the Ottawa Senators on TSN 1200!  There has been significant changes with Pierre Dorion taking over the reins as General Manager and we’re seeing lots of changes from the top down.  Thank you again for listening and contributing in our 4th year & we look forward to getting back to it in the summer.

It’s been a long 100 episodes but WE DID IT! We look at a few things around the league and read some e-mails & voicemails along with playing a couple games.

The home stand comes to an end and the Sens get an 8 out of a possible 10 points! Does he clear waivers on the way down?  WHO KNOWS? We talk Ryan.  We talk Cowen.  We talk Anderson.  We discuss different in game experiences within the CTC & look at the week ahead. It’s bright and sunny out, so we head back to the basement and record our summer episode. We look at the guys that moved out from the roster, briefly touch on the draft picks and the prospect camp. Sens win on home ice and stop the sweep! Good enough reason to get on the airwaves!  We get back from the game and get to enjoy our first win of the series. We couldn't make it to the studio, so you'll have to suffer through shoddy internet connection (Dammit Pan!). We’re looking forward to Friday’s game!

Well that escalated quickly.  We get to vent over PK Subban’s two handed chop on Mark Stone and breakdown the first two games of the series. Sens 3 @ Habs 4 Sens 2 @ Habs 3 (OT) We are joined by Russell from the Sens Underground (I swear he just gets a taste of podcasting and we’ll get him back in). Lots of talk on diving, fandom, the media and broadcasts and delaying for the results of the draft lottery which didn’t come in in time for the recording.  (LOL Oilers). We hope for a better result back on home ice and hope the energy gets the team back on track!

At the end of the line and the 82 games are completed, the Sens improbably move on to the playoffs against the Montreal Canadians of whom the Sens match up against well. Sens 3 @ NYR 0 Sens 3 @ Flyers 1 It has been a regular season of ups and downs.  From Andrew Hammond ending the season with a 20-1-2 record, the emergence of Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman to the return of Erik Karlsson to Norris Trophy caliber and the return and retirement of Daniel Alfredsson.  This season also had some not so great moments having Bryan Murray and Mark Reeds battle with inoperable cancer, the firing of Paul Maclean and trying to recover from early season struggles. Having zero changes outside of the Jason Spezza trade, the change in approach to the team by sitting veterans like Chris Phillips and holding back on others like Chris Neil and Jared Cowen has allowed the players to be young and hungry for competing in the regular season along with continuing off to the post season.

It's been a week of “most important game of the year” games. Game 77: Lightning vs Senators 2-1 OTW Game 78: Capitals vs Senators 4-3 OTW Game 79: Sens @ Leafs 3-2 SOL Game 80: Penguins vs Senators 4-3 OTW The team has played in 5 straight games that went to overtime or a shootout, and this week the Senators picked up 7 of a possible 8 points. We got lots of listener email to give us things to talk about, we share our thoughts on the playoffs, and we all agree that this team is just plain ol' entertaining the fans with their play....which is all you can really ask for.

The winning streak comes to an end and the team struggles a bit.  We try to keep this episode short and sweet - as much as we can. We’re back after the most controversial week of the season - Which Goalie should be starting????  (The answer is Anderson) Sens 2 @ Wild 3 (SO) Sens 3 @ Jets 1 Sabres 2 @ Sens 3 Flames 4 @ Sens 5 (SO) Bruins 3 @ Sens 1 After a heck of a run and a loss to the Bruins in a very key game, the low probability of making the playoffs gets bleaker.  There’s tough competition in the next coming week and the team has been consistently playing well. We get a couple of e-mails from Molar Doctor and Ivan, followed by some talk from around the league.  You also won’t believe where Kardinal thinks that Mike Babcock will be coaching!

After a seriously terrifying collision, the tank appeared to be full on.  How can an AHL goalie NOT tank this team?  Well EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING! Lots of talk about the roster as the team continues to fall in the standings.  Pan tries to explain his Team Tank approach and Kardinal just can’t put himself hoping for the team to lose.  We play a little armchair GM with what to do with Methot, we get a Facebook contribution from Liam, a couple e-mails from Labru and Blair Brown.  We go into the All Star break so won’t be back for a couple of weeks, but we’d love to continue to hear from you!

It has been a tomultuous day here in the Nation’s Capital.  We’re happy that the league came out and postponed tonights’ game  due to the tragedy.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the shootings.  That said, to continue on to not allow the terrorists to win, we record an episode!Avalanche 3 @ Sens 5Blue Jackets 2 @ Sens 3It’s hard to really complain about things on a day like this and when the team has a strong week of success.  CB Inc joins in with our recaps to move things along quickly and we then poke holes into the lineup.  A little talk around the league and we deal with a one week without hockey.  We have also started a Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/862252843807132/ . It has been a long time since we have gotten together for a show, and again, year after year, we say goodbye to another potential legacy player move out of the organization. This time though, we don’t seem as upset about Spezza moving on vs. Alfredsson last year. Is it because we got something in return? Is it that the team doesn’t seem to be a contending team next season? Is it that half of the fans have always been down on Spezza? We get some familiar faces back with Michalek staying and add a bit of experience and leadership with the addition of Legwand. We were also invited to the Sens Development camp and got exclusive access to the players, including a quick chat with Curtis Lazar and Fredrik Claesson - thanks again to Chris Moore and the Ottawa Senators for the invitation. We also look at the possibilities of goal songs for the year. A little more banter about the line up and signings around the league. We've switched roles as hosts, and it's been an interesting experience.   We summarize the last game of the season, the post-season press conferences of Eugene Melnyk, Bryan Murray (we didn't bother to talk about Cyril Leeder as Pan already had enough math in the show) and give our opinions about where we think the team is going, where we want it to go, and how it might turn out. The Sens end up with half the points that they could have gotten this year with some lack luster play. Will Phillips continue to point and random things? We’ll find out!

This week has been pretty much good news for the Sens (and for Pan’s new car). Lots of points earned and re-upping Bryan Murray for a couple more years and retaining and promoting Randy Lee and Pierre Dorion to retain the brain trust of the executive.  - Sens 3 @ Avs 4 (OT)  - Sens 2 @ Preds 1  - Sens 3 @ Wild 0   Murray and Melnyk promise better results on the ice with better options. This means higher ticket prices but also much better experience at the arena and game. We read some e-mail and tweets and thanks go out to the donors. Lots of key games coming up as the race to the playoffs continues!

It was somewhat of an emotional week with Alfie coming back to town for the first time, but still lots of news with the new Heritage Jerseys and a surprising 500 win percentage.  - Sens 6 @ Caps 4  - Canucks 5 @ Sens 2  - Red Wings 4 @ Sens 2  - Sens 4 @ Panthers 2   We announce the winner of our Sens Call Ups contest and read out the very touching e-mail from our winner.  We need more e-mails and more action on the forums.  Tell your friends!

The results on the ice continue to waver and there doesn’t seem to be a clear front runner as a constant in goal.  - Wild 4 at Sens 3  - Sens 2 at Red Wings 4  - Sens 1 at Hurricanes 4 Not much happens news wise with the Sens, except for the Rangers declining taking a pile of spare parts for Del Zotto, but we look at the news of the new Canadian National TV contract. Pan does more math with the Forbes article on valuations and we read no e-mail.

The Sens still struggle in the win column and everyone tries to look for answers. The big news of the week is seeing a familiar face on the ice. That’s right, Mika Zibanejad has been called up to rejoin the Sens! We get a couple of games at home this week of which some was bad, and some was good.  - Devils 2 @ Sens 5  - Oilers 3 @ Sens 1  - Sens 6 @ Red Wings 1 Oh - and we play against Alfie for the first time. After the road trip, we discuss some different in game experience at Canadian Tire Center from the games that we’ve been to up to now. Around the League, Shannahan has been busy in suspensions, there’s been some in season retirements and a few trade rumours going around. Don’t forget to EEEEEMMMMAAAILLL THE SHOW!!!!

The Call Ups return from the #SCUPacific trip and appeared to have a better time than the Sens. We recap the games while also talking about our experience at the different arenas.  - Sens 3 @ LA 4 OT Loss  - Sens 2 @ San Jose 3  - Sens 1 @ Anaheim 4  - Sens 4 @ Phoenix 3   We talk about what’s wrong with the team and minor adjustments to see how to use the roster and who should just "GET OFF MY TEAM!" We have a couple of games in the books with Craig Anderson really competing for the Team USA job. After very quick game recaps (thanks again CBInc) we have chats with Stuntman Stu Schwartz, the Canadian Tire Centre Public Address Announcer, as well as Ian Mendes from the new TSN1200!  - Sens 1 @ Sabres 0  - Sens 4 @ Leafs 5 (SO)   A quick look at the league, more money talk (we promise we’re done on that for a long time) and various cap hits. Canuck and Pan are looking forward to their trip and hope to be able to record while away.

The preseason is now over and the Sens wrap up in a disappointing fashion. Pan’s under the weather and it’s a late recording. We briefly take a look at who’s been in and out of the line up, who should be on the team and who’s definitely off. A quick look at notable player movement around the league rolls into the fold and we look at some twitter fun and read out some e-mails.

We’re back at it - it’s a little rusty to come back and we don’t have full games to talk about. After a quick look back through the rookie camp and current early cuts along with what’s  going on in the rest of camp and pre-season games.  We also look forward to the season by speaking with Alex Marchand, @SenatorsDJ, on how the background workings and the game day experience is at the CTC. We zoom around the league again including touching at the disaster that is the Calgary Flames and spend more time on the Florida Panthers than most people in Florida do. We’re back for our second season premiere because we ALL MISS HOCKEY!  We look back at the Alfredsson presser and some (hopefully) final thoughts on him leaving the team.  Pan punches possible holes in the stated $94 million losses since Melnyk’s reign. We review the roster and upcoming potential spot openings and how players will fit in.  There’s a little concern for when Cowen will return and what should be his compensation and term.  Of course, the big talk in the town is who will be the next captain. After reviewing what happened around the league including 2 new ownership groups, we look at the Olympic team and wrap things up from there. We didn’t think much was going to come out of the summer show, but wow, what changes do we ever have.  First, the name of the stadium changes to the “Canadian Tire Center” (air wrench).  Then, a big hole is left in our chest after the Golden Gawd decides to leave the only team he’s ever played for. The owner makes a plea to the public for support around the city after losing our icon, and we say good bye to some excellent young talent in Jakob Silfverberg and Stefan Noesen as well as knowing off the hop that if we jump onto the tank next year, we don’t get the pize of a quality pick.  To bring back some tradition to the show, Shredder from Sens Underground joins us! That said, we have the draft to speak about and have Kathryn Jean (@msconduct on twitter) to break down the Sens draft picks, and call up our good friend, Cathy Cardinal (@CathyCardinal) to give some up front info on Bobby Ryan.  We spin around the league leaving millions of dollars in buyouts.  We’ll see you in season 2!

This all came as a surprise today as our captain, the face of the franchise, and our all time point leader has left to go for a "better" chance for the cup in Detroit.   We pout, cry and get through this special episode and try to make sense of Alfie becoming a RedWing.  We share in our frustrations with your e-mails.  We'll be back shortly with our summer episode and hopefully in better spirits.

The Sens find a very formidable opponent in... THE REFS.  Pittsburgh brings it to the Sens in a couple bad games.  By not knowing what would be a good hit and physicality to bring, Ottawa is on the brink of elimination.  - Round 2, Game 2:  Sens 3 at Pens 4  - Round 2, Game 3:  Pens 1 at Sens 2 (2OT)  - Round 2, Game 4:  Pens 7 at Sens 3 We got some fantastic game submissions and recaps from listeners, review some player impressions, see what's happening around the league and review some other award nominees, and read some e-mails.

That was a Pesky game!  We get together for an emergency episode and talk about the 4-2 Game 1 win.  Lots happened in this game, so why not talk about it?

It’s been a miserable week on the ice however things seem to fall in the Sens favour around the league and with the more likely return of Karlsson, things could be on the up and up.  - Caps 1 @ Sens 3  - Leafs 4 @ Sens 1  - Pens 3 @ Sens 1 It’s hard to relive these games, but we struggle through it.  After all, the groundhogs like the game recaps, right?  There’s line-up changes looming and many spare parts hanging around.  We look at some things around the league, look at some teams in the playoffs, announce the winners of the latest contest and get ready for the last week of the regular season where the Sens can hopefully clinch early.

After being away for the full season, he’s back!  Yes that’s right!  After being on the sidelines all year Shredder returns to the Underground Network and joins us for the whole episode.  Oh, and Jared Cowen’s playing now too…  - Sens 3 @ Flyers 1  - Sens 2 @ Devils 0  - Canes 2 @ Sens 3 After a hat trick of wins, this week is much more positive versus last week and the playoff push continues.  We look at how some players are doing, suspensions around the league, the announcement of some outdoor games, and with Shredder back on it just wouldn’t be a show without a goaltender controversy. There really wasn’t much to talk about this week – until today!  We only have two games to look at, but they were successful:  - Bolts 3 @ Sens 5  - Devils 2 @ Golden Gawds 3 A couple of guys come back from injury and K-Dawg leaves town.  The owner sounds off on Matt Cooke and the injury to Karlsson at a VERY odd time.  Speaking of odd – the supplemental discipline inconsistencies continue to baffle everyone. Around the league, Pittsburgh is grabbing every free agent around the league for cheap and we get a special visit from Southern California by having a long time Groundhog on the show as Cathy Cardinal joins us.  (TJ, don’t be hateful, we’ll have you on, just e-mail us!) We read a couple more e-mails and empty out the inbox and await our trade deadline edition!

Originally Aired: January 19, 2013 No better way to start an NHL season than with a win right?  Welcome back NHL!  Our collective excitment for the return of Ottawa Senators hockey made us jump to the airwaves following the Sens 4-1 win over the Jets. Canuck was still in Florida, and we didn't have our usual technical setup, but we finally had a hockey game to talk about.  With smiling faces, we recap the Sens season opening win.

Originally Aired:  January 16, 2013 Here we go!  We finally have more hockey to talk about.  After watching a couple of open practices and participating in the open house, we are excited to see how the line up is shaping up and getting our first look at new acquisitions and some prospects up from the BSens.  To help us out, we have Ben from Binghamton give us a breakdown of guys that he’s been looking at for a few years. A couple big things in the news is who will play in goal and which D men to bring up and who would be in goal….and how local media is blowing things out of proportion. Welcome back, groundhogs!  It’s been a long and hard 4 months and we’re back with a new episode to discuss the available information on the CBA “Framework”, how it will impact some teams and how well the Sens look to be set up for the new salary cap. We discuss the look of the line up and depth charts for who fits where and who could come up to the big team from Binghamton – and yes – as always, we have a goalie controversy, but for once, it’s a good one.  Cowan’s injury has drastic impact on the blue line and we look at ways to fill them. The compliance buyouts bring an interesting twist for teams to get below the cap, but we have to wait for the summer for that.  This could cause budgetary and locker room issues around the league and will be very interesting to see. Originally Aired: October 10, 2012 Welcome back!  There’s still not much new in regards to the progress of CBA talks, so we do a little house cleaning and speak to a couple Call-ups!  Trying to survive with the lack of NHL hockey, we look at some of the alternatives by looking at the Sens abroad as well as the B-Sens and the CHL.  Our guest Dan gives us a taste of what living with a bunch of Canuckle-heads is like and a look at some of our Western based prospects. Around the league, we look at matches that aren’t necessarily made in heaven and a little more Leaf front office debacles.  The release of John Davidson from the Blues is discussed and looking at possible places where he could improve existing teams. We speak with Gabrielle, the first SCU Contest winner for the Most Disappointing Sens Moment as she opens her prize, and reads a beauty e-mail from Homer.

Originally Aired: September 20, 2012 WELCOME EVERYONE TO THE SENS CALL-UPS……ok, we really can’t keep that up.  Well, well, what’s to say about what’s going on in the NHL?  In one word NOTHING!  In episode 3, we talk about what we have heard about the CBA negotiations (or lack there of) and look at the teams that have lost money and what, in our humble opinions, needs to be done to change that and get the game back on the ice.  Looking at the signing bonus payouts and other loopholes, we touch on who is getting paid and who isn’t. Bingo looks like it will be a great point of interest for the year as well as the AHL as a whole.  We look forward to hearing stories of who will shine in the farm team and how the international hockey atmosphere will look. Kardinal looses it over the Cyril Leeder speech and we give our kudos to those team employees who have either lost their jobs or are on reduced work arrangements.  Comparatively to other teams who state that they haven’t laid anyone off, these are the people most affected by the lockout. The new OHL rules around fighting seem interesting and effective.  Will the NHL look at it?  Will they even consider it for themselves? No SCU podcast is complete without a little Whiskey Tango Foxtrot action on the length of contracts vs. the league CBA demands.  Some make sense, others don’t.
