COVID, Corruption, and the Screen Actor's Guild.

Namakula's career was derailed by the entertainment industry's COVID mandates. Now she's fighting back by running to be the NY president of SAG-AFTRA. Victory, however, may require exposing shocking levels of corruption within the union.Namakula is a multimedia artist who graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. She went on to develop a robust career spanning over 20 years in NYC, working throughout the US and Europe as a commercial video editor, creative producer, actor, VO talent, writer and casting director, at a high level. She's supported and spearheaded commercials, industrials, webseries, art films, live events and has worked with top tier ad agencies and production companies, on accounts ranging from multi-million dollar prestige brands to indie projects. She's also a bass player, known as "Nasejje", currently in the indie rock duo, FINE PRINT.In the last few years, she and 1000s of SAG-AFTRA members have suffered work stoppage due to the union pushing unscientific, medical mandates as a contingency for employment. This, and the discovery of rife corruption within the guild, has been the impetus for her SAG-AFTRA NY Local Presidential candidacy, (August 2023). https://www.namakula.com/artivist0:00:00 -- Intro.0:03:37 -- Renaissance Woman and Citizen of the World.0:18:54 -- Curiosity, Openness, and Being an Outlier.0:23:51 -- On Pandemic Skepticism.0:52:12 -- The Onset of the Mandates.1:02:35 -- Dysfunction & Corruption in SAG-AFTRA?1:27:58 -- On the Future of Show Business.-------------------------------------------------------SUBSCRIBE TO THE STATE OF THE ARTS: cliftonduncan.substack.comBUY TWIN ENGINE COFFEE: https://twinenginecoffee.com/?aff=4DONATE VIA VENMO: https://account.venmo.com/u/CliftonDuncanArtOR PAYPAL: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/CliftonDuncanArtOR CASHAPP: $CliftonDuncanArt

How Racial Panic is Destroying the Arts.

Heather Mac Donald is the Thomas W. Smith Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, a contributing editor of City Journal, and a New York Times bestselling author, who has received numerous awards for her writing.Mac Donald’s work at City Journal has covered a range of topics, including higher education, immigration, policing, homelessness and homeless advocacy, criminal-justice reform, and race relations. Her writing has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The New Republic, and The New Criterion. Driven by a sense of alarm, Heather's newest book, "When Race Trumps Merit", breaks powerful taboos, supported by data and detailed case studies, and warns that as long as alleged racism remains the only allowable explanation for racial disparities we will continue tearing down excellence and putting lives--as well as civilizational achievement--at risk.__________________________________________________________🔴 Donate via PayPal: https://paypal.me/CliftonDuncanArt🔴 Donate via CashApp: $CliftonDuncanArt🔴 Donate via Venmo: https://account.venmo.com/u/CliftonDuncanArt📖 Sign up for my Newsletter: https://cliftonduncan.substack.com☕ Get some delicious coffee: https://www.twinenginecoffee.com/CliftonDuncan__________________________________________________________Intro/Outro: https://www.epidemicsound.com/track/stJzyKNNgz/

Why Modern Comics Suck..

Chuck Dixon is the most prolific scripter in the history of comic books, with well over 40,000 pages of comics in publication. His work on both Batman and the "Punisher" are considered seminal to those franchises. He contributed the majority of the writing done on the legendary 'Knightfall' event for the Batman comic, which formed the basis for Christopher Nolan’s "Dark Knight" trilogy (he also co-created the iconic villain Bane, with Graham Nolan), and is also the co-creator of the Birds of Prey comic series with Jordan B. Gorfinkel. Characters he’s created for both DC and Marvel have appeared repeatedly in movies, television, and games and his adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s "The Hobbit" remains an international bestseller thirty years after its first publication. Chuck is also known worldwide, with comics written specifically for the European and Indian markets. He remains a major player in the growing world of independent comics, with dozens of new titles produced in recent years, and has written more than thirty novels (including his popular "Levon Cade" series and his recent "Conan the Barbarian" novel). How Chris Claremont Immortalized the X-Men.

Chris Claremont is a NY Times best-selling author, has been awarded the prestigious Kellogg Award in Arts and Letters by Bard College, and was inducted into the Will Eisner Comics Industry Awards Hall of Fame. His work has won multiple awards in France, Spain, and England. His papers are collected in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library of Columbia University, New York. He has authored nine novels, spoken at Princeton, MIT, U Penn and Columbia University, and appeared on television in the US and abroad. Chris’s initial unbroken 17-year run on "The Uncanny X-Men" is the stuff of industry legend -- taking a lackluster series and transforming it into the best-selling title in the industry -- and culminated in the launch of a new title, "X-Men"...the first issue of which sold a record-shattering 7.6 million copies. No one has come close to breaking this record. In addition to his indelible work on Marvel Comic’s "X-Men series" -- where he created classic characters such as Legion, The New Mutants, Rogue, Gambit, Sabretooth, Kitty Pryde, and the White Queen, amongst many others -- he has also written seminal characters such as Batman and Superman. It is a conservative estimate that Chris has sold in excess of 750,000,000 comics, world-wide. His work has touched millions, across several generations.VISIT CHRIS' WEBSITE:https://www.chrisclaremont.comFOLLOW ME ON TWITTER: https://www.twitter.com/cliftonaduncan SUBSCRIBE TO MY SUBSTACK: https://cliftonduncan.substack.com MY IMDB PAGE:https://www.imdb.me/cliftonduncan(MOST OF) MY THEATRICAL CREDITS:https://www.abouttheartists.com/artists/265366-clifton-alphonzo-duncanIntro/Outro: https://www.epidemicsound.com/track/stJzyKNNgz/SUPPORT THIS PODCAST BY BUYING SOME DELICIOUS COFFEE FROM OUR FIRST SPONSOR, TWIN ENGINE COFFEE:https://www.twinenginecoffee.com/CliftonDuncanI NARRATED THIS AUDIOBOOK:https://www.berlinersbook.com/

Living at the nexus of popular entertainment, internet culture, journalistic ethics, and "Progressive" Identity Politics, the kerfuffle ended up becoming a national story, still referenced by journalists to this day (nearly a decade later), and served as a preview of the Culture Wars that seem so pervasive now.FOLLOW METOKUR ON TWITTER:https://www.twitter.com/QuarantinedCoofHERE'S HIS YOUTUBE CHANNEL:https://www.youtube.com/c/MisterMetokurFOLLOW ME ON TWITTER: https://www.twitter.com/cliftonaduncan SUBSCRIBE TO MY SUBSTACK: https://cliftonduncan.substack.com MY IMDB PAGE:https://www.imdb.me/cliftonduncan(MOST OF) MY THEATRICAL CREDITS:https://www.abouttheartists.com/artists/265366-clifton-alphonzo-duncanIntro/Outro: https://www.epidemicsound.com/track/stJzyKNNgz/SUPPORT THIS PODCAST BY BUYING SOME DELICIOUS COFFEE FROM OUR FIRST SPONSOR, TWIN ENGINE COFFEE:https://www.twinenginecoffee.com/CliftonDuncanTIME STAMPS:0:01:45 -- Introductory Remarks.0:04:23 -- Jim's Origin Story, and Olden Days of a Free Internet.0:14:42 -- "Intersectional" Ideological Infiltration. 0:19:27 -- WTF was #GamerGate?0:33:33 -- "Progressive" Authoritarian Hypocrites.0:43:56 -- The Importance of Being Anonymous.1:04:08 -- An Off-White Pill.

Art, Awe, and Authoritarianism.

In many ways, this exciting discussion encapsulates why I started this podcast, living at the nexus of Art, Culture, and Society; it also serves as an example of the perils of ignoring Art and Artists in our ever-escalating "Culture Wars", as many have seen fit to do--unless they are complaining about how bad our Art has gotten.A Cuban-American whose mother experienced the ravages of Communism firsthand, the fiery and vivacious Salomé Sibonex deeply understands the corrosive effect of the authoritarian impulse on creative expression. She is a writer and artist known for her distinct style of truth-telling, melding philosophy and psychology to diagnose modern issues. She's written for Areo Magazine, writes the cult-favorite newsletter "Weird & Güd", and examines film as modern mythology on her podcast, The Silver Eye Society, and you can find her on Twitter and Instagram via @SalomeSibonex.
