Prompted by the Gibeonites' plea, Joshua and his forces swiftly march overnight to aid them against the attacking Amorites. Joshua's prayer led to divine intervention, causing confusion among the Amorites, who had aid from hailstones. The five Amorite kings sought refuge in a cave but were captured and publicly executed by Joshua, their bodies sealed in the cave with stones. This victory initiated a series of campaigns where the Israelites conquered numerous cities in southern Canaan, subduing the region from Kadesh-Barnea to Gaza. When the wandering was finally over, and the mourning of Aaron was completed, the Israelites were once again ready to enter the Promised Land. But they ran into some issues.
