First Steps: How Upright Walking Made Us Human with Dr. Jeremy DeSilva

Welcome again Cave Dwellers and Thank You for joining me on another episode of The Neanderthal Mind. Today we sit down with Jeremy DeSilva. Jeremy, or "Jerry" as he sometimes prefers, is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Dartmouth College. He is a paleoanthropologist, specializing in the locomotion of the first apes and early human ancestors, (hominoids & hominins respectfully). His particular anatomical expertise-- the human foot and ankle-- has contributed to our understanding of the origins and evolution of upright walking in the human lineage. He has studied wild chimpanzees in Western Uganda and early human fossils in Museums throughout Eastern and South Africa. From 1998-2003, Jerry worked as an educator at the Boston Museum of Science and continues to be passionate about science education. He is the author of the 2021 book First Steps: How Upright Walking Made Us Human. Jerry lives in Norwich, VT with his wife Erin and their twins Ben and Josie. Dr. DeSilva has also been involved with some of the more recent, history making discoveries from Rising Star, as well as the Famous footprints of Laetoli. It was an awesome conversation and an unparalleled education for me in Neanderthal Cousins and Early Human Ancestors. So, sit back, relax and enjoy the show. You-Evolving with Dr. Hogan Sherrow

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome my Cave Dwellers. Thank You for joining me on this next episode of The Neanderthal Mind. Today we talk with Dr. Hogan Sherrow, and to start, I want to send out A huge THANK YOU!!! to him, for joining me on The Neanderthal Mind Podcast. Here is a little about Dr. Sherrow:           Dr. Hogan Sherrow is a Fulbright Scholar and has a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Anthropology from Yale University. He has studied the behavior and ecology of humans and other animals on three different continents, specializing in the evolution of political behavior, tribalism, leadership, and aggression. Some of his recent writings focus on the evolutionary origins of the Texas and Taliban attempts to control women and the existence and danger of the cult of trump. Hogan now consults for individuals, organizations, and campaigns as Owner of You Evolving, LLC, www.you-evolving.com.            In this episode, Dr. Sherrow and I get into his Business and podcast called You Evolving. Dr. Sherrow addresses, "When scientists talk about the evolutionary reason for a behavior, they are not assigning merit to that behavior, or condoning it, they are simply finding the source of it. It is up to us as individuals and as groups and societies to determine what is morally acceptable and hold individuals to those standards". We also discuss, what Dr. Sherrow  thinks is the best trait we inherited from our Neanderthal/Early Human Ancestors, as well as, what his studying of primates, insinuate about male Dominance in relationships, and so much more. I absolutely enjoyed my conversation with Dr. Sherrow, as I know my "Cave Dweller Community" will enjoy as well, and of course, all of Dr. Sherrows’ links will be included in the Show notes. As I always say, sit back, relax and enjoy the show. World of Paleoanthropology with Seth Chagi

Hello Cave Dwellers, and welcome to episode 18 of The Neanderthal Mind. My goodness, episode 18, still a newborn in the podcast world, and the Neanderthal Realm, but we will keep on trucking, and continue to bring you information on our Ancestors, and how they affect our modern existence. In this episode, we sit down with Seth Chagi. Seth, as I am sure, most of my Cave Dwellers know, is the founder of  World of Paleoanthropology, it is a Facebook group and a STEM Sci-comm project, which we discuss, to make all news, and research about Human Origins available to the public in a free and accessible way that we would be able to study and understand. As Seth says, “Through this understanding we can search for the answers to our questions surrounding our origins”.The one thing that strikes me, that Seth said, and I quote, “We are all Human, we all came from the same source”. That hits the heart, especially in todays atmosphere. We all need to understand, we are all human, we may have been made to look different on the outside, but we are entirely the same on the inside, where the heart is. As mentioned, we will get into Seth’s journey for Open, free and accessible information We talk about how, and I'm sure you all could agree, we need More education of our Ancestral beginnings in our school systemWe set the story straight on the pronunciation Neanderthal or NeandertalOf course we will discuss Seth's heart project, World of paleoanthropology (Facebook group)We go into, which I like to ask all of my guests this question, what led you to paleoanthropology and the realm of the NeanderthalsSci-Com (science communication)Theories of evolution, again, another question I like to ask my guestsSome new discoveries of Neanderthal ReligionCognitive Revolution during the Pleistocene (2.5 mil-11,700) and Holocene (11,700-present)https://www.facebook.com/worldofpaleoanthropologyhttps://www.instagram.com/world\_of\_paleoanthropology/https://twitter.com/WrldOfPaleoAnth?s=20https://www.linkedin.com/in/sethchagi/https://studio.youtube.com/channel/UCbXoN38kftE2ZKD5L\_fwlqg/videos/upload?

Revisit of episode one with Joe Lawlor

Well Cave Dwellers, I feel I need to apologize for this episode! It is my first attempt at a solo episode. To my dismay, I feel it is not of a quality episode as I believe my Cave Dwellers deserve, but, it is my first attempt, so, I can only get better from here. In this episode, I recap my very first interview with Joe Lawlor, aka, Neanderthal Joe. I define most of the terms Neanderthal Joe shared with us when He was explaining Flint Knapping. Joe is, what I would call, an expert of the process. Joe gives a history of Flint Knapping, and some of the more common terms used when talking about Flint Knapping and the history of it and our Neanderthal Ancestors. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. It is a lot shorter of an episode than your use to, but it is just a recap of a previous episode, which, you can go back and download to listen to the entire episode, if you have not already. Thank You again Cave Dwellers, for all the support you have given me. I look forward to hearing from my community any time you would like to discuss The Neanderthal Mind, and where we as a community, would like to see the podcast go and grow. Well, until next time Cave Dwellers.

OK, wow, wow, wow! Is all I can say to all that knowledge being splayed out there for us. I want to Thank Alan again for sticking around longer than the allotted time to take us to class. Cave Dwellers, I know you will be overflowing with knowledge after that, again, repeat, repeat and repeat to take notes. Absolutely amazing content. Thanks again Cave Dwellers, for joining me weekly on The Neanderthal Mind, giving me your time and ears, and mind. As I have said previously, I would love to hear from you about how you feel the podcast is going. Is it what you were expecting? Are there things I can do differently to make this any better? If I don’t hear from you, I can only assume that I am giving you what you want from The Neanderthal Mind. I will take all criticism that you give, and try to mold the show to your liking, but, I can’t promise I will be able to do everything, everyone wants me to do, so please, email the show at [email protected], and go to the website theneanderthalmind.com, and leave me some messages. Until next time Cave Dwellers…. And here is a little of what’s to come next week when we sit down with Author, Dr. Rebecca Wragg Sykes, about her new book: Kindred, Neanderthal Life, Love, Death and Art. A fantastic listen as well as an awesome read for books about our Neanderthal Ancestors. https://store.bookbaby.com/book/human-fossil-record-and-classification Facebook Group Denisovan Link:https://www.facebook.com/groups/DenisovanFacebook Group The into Africa Theory of Human Evolution Link:https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheIntoAfricaTheoryFacebook Group Archaic Human Club link:https://www.facebook.com/groups/Archaic Human Club

Episode 1 Interview with Joe Lawlor

Hello, Hello and welcome my Cave Dweller Community. As you all know, my name is Anthony, and I am your host of The Neanderthal Mind. Joining me on today's episode is Joe Lawlor, Primitive Weapons and Tool Maker. Neanderthal Joe, as he is known by His Community, is also a Primitive designer of Jewelry, Clothing and Leather tote bags as well as hide working furs for everyday uses. Neanderthal Joe is well versed and well-polished in the Levallois Style of Flint knapping, common among Mousterian Neanderthal Sites. He creates all of his designs using the Primitive Neanderthal Techniques of Hammer Stone, Bone Hammer, Horsehair, Milkweed Fiber, Pine pitch and good ole wood whittling. You can check all of his creations on His Facebook Shop, Neanderthal Joe’s Shop. I will have all his Social Media Homes listed in the Show Notes. Neanderthal Joe will be joining us for two episodes. I had to break it up into two episodes due to so much awesome content, knowledge and history of Primitive Tools, weapons, jewelry and clothing that Neanderthal Joe throws down during our Hour plus conversation. We also touch on when and why Neanderthal Joe got into Flint Knapping, and what started his love for Neanderthals, on a weekend stay with his Gram and they wanted to go to one of the Local (Ontario Canada) Museums. So, without further ado, Join me and Neanderthal Joe in a sit down conversation about Primitive Life and the tools, weapons and articles made of fur and hide that helped our Ancestors survive millions of years, so, let's get this wheel rolling my Cave Dweller Community. Facebook group main platform:https://www.facebook.com/groups/170118903534062/?ref=shareShop page (Facebook)https://www.facebook.com/Neanderjoe/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CHTgTn4rVUR/?igshid=rmkpg6l2kn40YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5e-E4ZgFeN19YVQ9k5fhJAEtsy:https://etsy.me/2IfGi3wMinds page:https://www.minds.com/neanderthaljoe
