Kevin Carroll - The Psychology Of Play

“When I met Kevin, I saw a man who manages to preserve the wisdom of his inner child. This human ‘Katalyst’ is able to bring out of reality its magic and out of people its joy.” Paulo Coelho When I read the quote above on Kevin Carroll's website in 2020 I knew that I had to have the human 'Katalyst' on my show in order to ask him face to face what I can do in order to reconnect with the child within me once more. During the time where I reached out to Kevin, I was working 100+ hours a week and I realized more and more that my bad Elon Musk lifestyle impersonation wasn't making my life better - quite the contrary was the case. Instead of looking like a life champ, I started to look like a 70-year professor who couldn't speak or think about anything else that wasn't related to his work. Even though my bank account and my library grew by the day - I realized that I had accidentally killed the kid within me in order to make room for the man that I felt I needed to be. After losing a meaningful relationship with my workaholism, I woke up to the reality that too much of a "virtue" is actually a vice. I was priding myself on my extreme endurance, nobility of character, and diligence - but underneath all of it was an addiction. And addiction - no matter what the drug of choice is, is never a good thing - even if the drug is work. While studying the many Ted Talks that Kevin Carroll gave - I realized that his material could not only help me to revive and integrate my inner child again - but also all my readers who were in danger of making the same mistakes that I made. I'm honored to introduce you to Kevin Carroll - who in my mind, is the world-leading expert in the psychology of play.

Dr. Dorothy Holinger - The Anatomy Of Grief

Grief is an emotional avalanche that we all know all too well... It's the invisible hand around our throat that suffocates the joy out of our lungs when our favorite person leaves us prematurely. It's the widening of our eyes that occurs when we receive that one phone call that informs us that our life as we know isn't there anymore. It's the numbness in our fingers after we lost something or someone that meant the world to us. But why precisely do we feel loss physically? I didn't know the answer to that question before I reached out to Dr. Dorothy P. Holinger - one of the world-leading experts in grief. Dr. Holinger knows a thing or two about the emotional and physical suffering that occurs when love is taken away from us... Dr. Holinger was an academic psychologist on the faculty of Harvard Medical School for more than twenty years and in her private psychotherapy practice, she helped countless souls to cope with death and separation, and other life catastrophes. Dr. Holinger is a personal hero of mine and she is one of the individuals who inspired me to create a grief department at the university that I'm currently building - this interview is a must listen and I highly recommend that you check out Dr. Holinger's work afterward.

Dr. Aziza Yaser - Mental Health In The Middle East

Why I Wanted To Learn From Dr. Aziza Yaser One of the most fun parts of my life is to go online and to connect with people who also want to help individuals to live more meaningful lives - this is precisely how I stumbled over the work of Dr. Aziza Yaser on Instagram. Yes, ladies and gents - Instagram can also be used productively. I was scrolling through mental health hashtags while I suddenly found a young but very talented mental health expert who just happened to come from a country I've never been to - Bahrain. After devouring most of her beautifully written poetic mental health posts I've reached out to her and asked her: What's it like to be a therapist in the middle east? That question was the beginning of a curative online friendship between two people who love to bring out the best in others. Siemon Scamell-Katz - Why do shoppers buy?

The 18th episode of The Psychology Podcast with Daniel Karim features the world-leading shopping psychology expert Siemon Scamell-Katz and author of the bestseller The Art of Shopping.  Why Did I Want To Learn From Siemon Scamell-Katz? I reached out to Siemon Scamell-Katz shortly after I created my first product - Planniness, a journal that was designed to help people live more balanced and stressfree lives.  My team and I put a great deal of effort into the invention of this behavior technology and we were excited to get feedback from customers so that we could create an even better journal out of it, so we uploaded it to amazon and waited... and waited... and waited.  After one entire month, we had one sale, and that sale came from my mother( shout out to you mom for always believing in me x). That month taught me something - no matter how good the product, people need to learn that it exists.  I knew that in order to help people to change their behavior at the scale I first need to understand how to reach them.  Being the lazy bastard that I am, I reached out to one of the foremost authorities in the field of shopping psychology in order to understand why people buy stuff.  Why learn everything yourself if you can just ask people who already have the answer to your problem right!?🤷🏻‍♂️ That expert was Siemon Scamell-Katz, the author of the bestseller - The Art of shopping. Siemon was one of the very first practitioners of shopper research, being the first in the world to conduct eye-tracking in-store, to research shopper behavior in Virtual Reality, and to conduct shopper marketing fMRI and eye-tracking studies. This man isn't an expert, he is a pioneer who invested decades of his life into observing us, filming us, and tracking our eye movements in order to predict when people buy. Whether you are a producer who sells stuff or a customer who buys stuff, the information that Siemon collected is pure gold and this Podcast is a must-listen. What Is This Episode About?  -How to get people to buy stuff -Siemons journey of success -His pioneering work in consumer psychology  -His early entrepreneurial pursuits  -How to create a bestselling book  -Why most marketing is a waste of money  -Why Supermarkets make the life of customers miserable  -The power of environment and placement

Maria Löfskog --The Psychology of Contemporary Dance

The Psychology of Contemporary Dance Who is Maria Löfskog? Maria Löfskog is a dancer that grew up in the mountains of Sweden. She decided to pursue her own path through life to accomplish her dreams that were considered very far away from the safe village in the middle of nowhere that she was from. Maria grew up in a family where there was always a competitive love for sports and also for dancing. This passion or dancing was very early installed into her mind, and this allowed her to go against actively pursue her dreams of becoming a dancer.  Dancing has held a special place in her heart ever since. Marias dancing style is provocative and aims at making people think about themselves and about their surrounding.  Maria loves to emphasize the importance of asking questions. Her work is a manifestation of this philosophy. While other dancers entertain you, Maria Löfskog will challenge you to not only think one step outside of the box but ten. Why I wanted to interview Maria Löfskog I wanted to interview Maria Löfskog for The Psychology Podcast because I was curious about what dancing can give a person in regards to happiness, fulfillment, and purpose.  One thing that I'm fascinated by and one thing that I still have my fair share of battles with is depression and anxiety. Depression is also a phenomenon of movement. Or to be more precise, a lack of it.  It's almost as if you can describe happiness episodes as physical states of agitation. The worst state is depression, it equals the physical state of freezing. You can't get out of bed anymore, your thoughts all revolve around the same unsolvable issues over and over again.  Dancing is one the other side of the spectrum, it's almost like flying. In order to measure happiness, psychologist use the Hamilton rating scale. It basically means how shitty you are feeling.  21 is rock bottom suicidality, 1 is dancing in joyful excitement.  I wanted to interview Maria Löfskog because I was curious if contemporary dance was making her happier.  What I found was much more than I hoped for: A powerful ingredient for the recipe of happiness which is contemporary dance.  Where can I listen to this episode? Mona Mandouri {Writer} - Inside The Mind of a Poet

Who is Mona Mandouri? In her own words: "Hi, I am Mona. Most people need a name for an introduction-maybe because they’re too lazy to make one up themselves? I write. I always wrote. I made up bedtime stories until my mom fell asleep. I freestyled about things I have seen and fell in love with during the day. Most of the times I sung them for hours on the toilet. Wich, I still love to do because the acoustic in bathrooms make you sound so lovely. I was too scared to do art. It always looked like a crucial, beautiful dangerous draining solution for everything. Like heroin. That’s how I felt about it. So I went into the creative industry. I became a copywriter-for all sorts of clients around the world during the day hours. I don’t know much about hours. Here I discovered that I always was a writer. And that I have found my purpose a long time ago without noticing. So every now and then, in the other hours, I started to read out my poetry. Every now and then I’ll be part of an art project, installation, design concept, songwriting, video shoot and so on.  And I love it. Constantly willing and devoted to express myself for me or for others. And the need to be closer than physically close. Wanting to be in your head and heart close, I guess makes me the writer and person that I am. And I love roses for various reasons. Is that enough information ?" Antonia Wetzel — The Psychology of Naked

In this Episode, I Interview the painter Antonia Wetzel aka Tonja. I was super excited when she agreed to jump on the podcast with me, and I believe there is a gem for everybody in this conversation. Tonja is not your typical artist, in her most recent project she decided to investigate social phenomena like exhibitionism, voyeurism and online nudity. Her work, in my opinion, is breathtaking. In this episode, she talks about her ongoing project; drawing and painting tinder-matches who agreed to masturbate while being portrayed. Antonia Wetzel does an amazing job of playfully explaining what painting means to her and why she decided to pick up the brush. I decided to pick Antonia Wetzel’s brain because I am fascinated with people who found their purpose and who are doing what they love., this to me is success. And Antonia Wetzel’s view of sexuality, happiness, and art definitely helped me to expand my view on what it takes to be human. Listen directly here, or on Itunes, Stitcher or SoundCloud. Who is Antonia Wetzel? Antonia Wetzel, aka Tonja was born 1989 in Munich, Germany. She relocated to Cairo, Egypt with her family in 1998 and grew up there until the age of 16.
