Fast riding and extreme heat have become factors in this Tour de France.  Jumbo-Visma, who has been a dominant team thus far, lost two key riders today. Today we saw another breakaway full of talent. The heat leading up to the Pyrenees is taking its toll on the Peloton. Extraordinary ride by Tom Pidcock today. Johan called this “Perhaps the best stage of the Tour de France we have seen in a decade”.  Today we saw an aggressive and planned attack from Jumbo-Visma to isolate and wear down Tadej Pogacar. Not only was this the longest stage of the tour, it also average a very fast 49k/hr. We’re still all a bit puzzled at Wout Van Aerts's long breakaway and its motives, but that breakaway did give us a good look at a rising star, Quinn Simmons. Johan was in awe of the last 10k effort by Wout Van Aert, comparing it to legendary riders like Hinault and Merckx. Johan also tells the story of one of the greatest sprinters who didn’t know that he had just won the stage ahead of him. The wind and the crashes came as predicted, but didn’t manage to split any GC contenders. Incredible spring performance today by Fabio Jakobson, especially after the physical pushing between him and Peter Sagan. With Jumbo-Visma having green jersey goals, co-leaders, and now Wout Van Alert in Green and yellow, might they be too ambitious and putting too many demands on their team, meanwhile, UAE seems to be conserving energy that will be much needed in week 3.

Today's stage was the 2nd stage of 3 in Denmark with us not knowing if the crosswinds would break up the peloton. The mostly headwind kept a downsized but decent bunch for the sprint finish. With the last remaining one-week tune-ups behind us, we look at the riders and teams form heading into the Tour De France. Will Tadej Pogacar was not present at these races to compare. Jumbo Visma may have Co-captains after what we saw in the Dauphine. Geraint Thomas made a strong case to be the Ineos team leader. A big unknown is the potential consequences for the teams with a Covid surge as we saw in the Tour de Suisse.

Lance, Johan, George, and JB reflect on this year's Giro D’Italia and the win by Jai Hindley, who was not on most people's radar for a Giro Win. With more teams getting into the grand tour mix now including Bora Hansgrohe, and younger riders succeeding early success, sets the stage for a Tour de France showdown. JB and Johan take a look back at the 2nd week of the 2022 Giro D’Italia. This week kicked off with a historic win of rising talent, Biniam Girmay, only to end with an abandon following a champagne cork incident. Arnaud Démare is a nearly untouchable sprinter in this Giro with his third victory. Johan lets us know who he thinks will be on the podium for GC at the end of the Giro, one of those names wasn’t included in the conversation prior to the start of this Giro. Johan explains why.

The sprinter conversation is equally as interesting as the General Classification. With all the talk the last few years about the young guys changing the game, it turns out endurance and experience can prevail with a few seasoned veterans.

JB and Johan take a look back on stages 5-9 of the Giro D’Italia. We saw a sprinter with back-to-back wins in Arnaud Démare, Jumbo Visa a nice with Koen Bouwman assisted by Tom Dumoulin, Thomas De Gendt doing what he does best and the GC picture takes shape atop the Blockhaus.

As predicted in the preview show, Mathieu Van Der Poel is putting on an early show, Mark Cavendish is making a strong statement about his form, and Simon Yates and Richard Carapaz are the GC guys are to beat. 

We take a look at the 2022 Giro D’Italia course and favorites. It’s been a difficult year to predict rider fitness and team strength with a litany of illnesses within the peloton. The team breaks down the GC and sprinter favorites with the tour starting tomorrow in Hungary.

La clásica más antigua del calendario, la Lieja, empezó con la ausencia de uno de los favoritos, Pogaçar, quien tuvo que cancelar por problemas familiares. Otra noticia importante fue la caída masiva a falta de 60kms que eliminó muchos ciclistas, entre ellos el gran favorito Julian Alaphilippe.  Pero todo eso no le preocupó a Remco Evenepoel, quien se fue en solitario a falta de 30min en la subida de La Redoute y nos regaló una exhibición raramente visto. 

Since the severe crash of Remco Evenepoel back in 2020, everyone has been wondering when he would be back on form. Today was that day. He even described it post-race as his best ever.  There was a big crash at 59k out forcing favorite, Julian Alaphilippe to abandon. It will take some time to find out what riders sustained injuries that might affect participation in the Giro D’ Italia.

Julian Alaphilippe and Tadej Pogacar were the early favorites and it even looked that way until the final climb. Dylan Teuns was on peak form for the day but it was the amazing performance of 41-year-old Alejandro Valverde in his final season that had us talking.

La carrera llamada “el infierno del norte” de este año fue muy atípica. Con más de 200kms por delante, el equipo Ineos lanzó un ataque con sus 7 ciclistas, y sorprendió a la gran mayoría de los demás favoritos.  En la segunda mitad se juntaron de nuevo todos los candidatos a la victoria, pero el holandés Dylan Vanbaarle supo aprovechar su oportunidad y llegó en solitario en el mítico velódromo de Roubaix. El campeón de Bélgica Wout Vanaert y el Suizo Stephan Kung le acompañaron en el podium de esta edición más rápida de la historia. 

Dry conditions did not make for an easier Paris-Roubaix with the fastest finishing time in history and seemingly, historic punctures as well. We may have well-seen spectator interference affect the podium outcome and it also seems that this year's spring classics have been amazing for Team Ineos where we typically see Quick-Step domination. The women’s race received full tv coverage and Ali Tetrick joins the show to help break down the race.

Another photo finish thriller for the Amstel Gold Race. The Ineos team tactics worked to perfection and Michał Kwiatkowski uses his 6th sense to know when to go, something Lance and Johan said was a special skill he has always had, dating back to being a young pro on Team Radio Shack. Would Benoît Cosnefroy have won had he started sprinting a little later or if he had done a proper bike throw like Kwiatkoski?

Con la ausencia de última hora del gran favorito Wout Vanaert, se podría prever una carrera más abierta. Nada más lejos de esta teoría, puesto que dos otros campeones, Tadej Pogaçar y Matthieu Vanderpoel se mostraron bastante más fuertes que los demás de sus rivales y dominaron el final de la carrera. Finalmente fue Matthieu Vanderpoel quien se llevó la victoria, por segunda vez en los últimos 3 años.
